Is it possible to make a laser even more awesome?

You do know that its NIR right? I personally like IR and it burns well, but 50mW is weak for burning. Go with 405nm violet.

Welcome to the forum. Why do you need a near-IR laser? This would probably be OK for pointing at night, using night vision goggles. Is this what you need to do? A power of 50mW is really too low for burning. If you want a burning laser, get a red dilda from rayfoss or o-like, DX has this as well. The red dilda has around 200mW, so it will pop balloons, light matches, and cut electric tape for example. The red beam is visible with fog or smoke, can also be seen in a dimly lit room or outside at night. The red dilda is reasonably priced, too.

780nm is basically invisible, and 50mW will only burn slightly, and only when focusing it to a pinpoint. Therefore - do not buy this laser.

If you want to know more about lasers in general, read. We have a huge forum full of information.

Howdy and welcome to the forum  If you are interested in burning you will want something around 100mW and Blu-Ray would be your best bet ! although some people like green better it just depends what color you like.
buying a near IR laser would be no fun for a first one unless you need a near IR for some spefic reason !
use the search function and read read read there is more good laser info than you can ever use so check it out ;)

In addition to what others have told you about this laser, a big concern is:
You can not see the beam, therefore you can not tell if it is hitting you (or someone else) in the eyes. Your first clue would be, you become blind in one eye (or both) permanently!!!
50mW can blind you 2X faster then you can blink, which you will not, because your eyes can not sense the brightness of the beam.
I would not recommend an IR laser to anybody who has not had at least 2-3 years of laser experience.

If you want to burn, go with 405nm (Blu~Ray)

That one on the bottom needs to be built and does not come with a diode. Also 405nm is always bluray.

Laserboy, that site is in China, so, if i buy a laser above 10mW from them, and they ship it to the US, customs will seize it, won't they?

Rayfoss is china too, so is DX. Pretty much all of them are china.

There are ways to increase your chances of getting around customs. I think the most common way is to send the battery and tailcap in a separate package so they can't test the laser. But technically they are not legal and its just the chance you take trying to import one. It could get confiscated.

from all of the packages from rayfoss sent to the U.S, ive never heard of one being seized, and they put a <1mW sticker on the laser and hide the real sticker at the bottom of the box to prevent customs from sniffing around, so i should say that you have nothing to worry about if you order from them.

Its all in china for the most part. There is always a chance of customs seizure but it is not likely, aside from hiding the label and the batteries seperate and all that other stuff, customs moves thousands of packages in very little time in order to not completely halt shipping into usa from overseas. They cannot and currently will not check every package they get, its all hit or miss, but their is alot better chance of you getting your laser than of customs taking it.

Lasers ordered from China = 42.
Number seized by customs = 0
Pretty good odds in my book! I too, have never heard of a Rayfoss or O-like laser being seized.
They wrap them up so tight in bubble wrap, you have to use a laser to get into the package.
