Hi guys,
I'm new to lasers and wanted to ask for your advice.
I am looking for a fixed focus laser module, 5mw, 5v, 650nm, that would produce a very think, less then 0.5mm, line at a distance of 100 to 150mm.

So far I tired the cheap ~2$ fixed focus line laser modules that you can on get ebay, but their line was terrible, > 2.5mm wide.

I also tried the ~5$ adjustable focus modules, but was unable to get a good line at both 100 and 150mm distance.

I contacted a few manufacturers in China and they offered me a fixed focus laser that's supposed to give a think line at any distance <0.5m.

They are asking $9.5 for it ( I'm buying 1000 units, so the price is important ).

Available wavelength: 650nm
Size: dia.12mm x len.32mm
Output power: 4mW
Output aperture: dia.5mm
Operating voltage: DC 3V
Operating current: less than 50mA
Line thickness: less than 0.5mm at 0.5m, or less than 1mm at 3m
Curvature: less than 1mm
Fan angle: from 10°to 110°(fixed, please advise)
Divergence: 1.0mrad
Optics: glass lens both sides AR coated
Operating temperature: -10-+40 Celsius degree
Storage temperature: -40-+80 Celsius degree
Life time: more than 8000 hours
Laser safety classification: class 2

What do you think, is this price reasonable for the above specs?

evaluate a sample before committing to 1000.
Then, I'd buy 250 at a time, just to be safe.
Consider the use of a line-producing diffraction grating.
though, that will drive up the cost.
the fan angle reference in the specs may be referring to a grating or slit to produce a line.
the $9 cost seems high. if buying 1000, $3-$5 per unit is possible.
is the focus distance fixed? if so, a focusing unit may produce the cleanest line.
0.5mm is a pretty common aperture beam width.
stick with small divergence: <1.0mrad.
it will not be easy keeping the beam 0.5mm at 100mm distance without focus.
even gas lasers with their superb beams specs cannot do this without optics.
but 1mm at 100mm distance is very doable. with a diode.
if buying 1000 at $9, you have a $9000 budget.
evaluate as many units as you can before making buy.
it's worth the time and effort it get it right.
China isn't the best on customer service.
Where are you on the planet?

Hi and thanks for your reply. I'm in Riga, Latvia. Of course, I ordered samples from this manufacturers, hope to receive in a week or so.

Maybe you could suggest some manufacturer? most of whom I found in Alibaba can offer in the 9-10$ price range.

Maybe that's why they cost 9$ ? ... :undecided:

whatever you'll choose consider the temperature changes in your application. If lenses will be plastic (to cut costs) your line thickness may vary from thin to very fat.

In theory, your laser must have a very short focal length lens or have an aperture to produce a thin line over your desired range.

Received the samples for a company with a funny name Huyanic, and was truly surprised by their poor quality. :wtf:

Here you can see the line produced by their 10$ ( bulk price, 20$ retail ) module.

Maybe you could suggest some other manufacturers who can do better at a reasonable price?

Thanks )

Why you don't like a line from Huyanic? A typical line from a cylindrical lens with uncut edges.
Are those lasers of the same power?
