would potentiometer work well on a laser, instead of having a clicky at the butt end of the laser. you would be able to control the mW output really easily. I'm thinking about buy a cheap DX laser and trying

Do your research bud...

Most of the plans you'll find anywhere on here use a pot in there somewhere.

However in order to both turn on the laser AND control power with just one knob you'll need a pot with a switch built in. As far as I know they do exist but again, do your research before you ask something thats been discussed many times before.

Hope that helps...

Without thinking abut it too much, it would work so some degree....but basicly you'd have off....and as you increase the pot you would jsut have a dim light untill you reached the threshhold, then you'd get a bright laser all of the sudden...and then from there you may be able to raise the power a little....
you best bet is to do what bhank said.
have an on/off switch.
and then have an adjustable pot with a min./max. range that you can adjust which would be on the driver.

That happened with my WL core. Would this be related to the diode or the driver?

Could be: Batteries, Crystals, temperature, diode, driver and maybe some other factors.
