I was going to be ordering a small cheap 50mw laser from o-like soon ( New cute pocket Green laser 50mW /adjustable [OLCGL50] - $34.99 : Welcome to O-Like.com, Your source for laser products ) and was curious if customs will seize the shipment, as it's more than 5mw.

I only own a small 5mw pointer and I bought that from the U.S. I never ordered a "higher" powered laser out of the country before, so I am a little cautious.

I did send o-like an email asking if they ship to the US and they said that they do, so do you think there will be any problems with customs? :gun:

:thanks:

You shouldn't have a problem. O-Like and Rayfoss usually mark their packages as 10$ flashlight parts, which is what they look like. :yh:

Yea, the one I am getting looks identical to a flashlight (besides the size of the aperature!).

Also, do you think that safety goggles/glasses are a necesity. I understand that these lasers are not toys and I will not use them in a toy-like manner, so I am doubting whether or not I should get some protection. All I'm going to be using it for it outdoor use.

I have a few HPLs from O-like... all have been shipped with 'electronics' on the customs bill & I've had nothing confiscated before. I would not worry if I were you unless it's taken more than 4 weeks since ordering.

If I were you I would. I've heard the vets say if you have any doubts at all, you should get glasses.

So I'm curious about this. I know that it's pretty much standard practice to declare an artificially low value on international shipments, and also to use a fairly generic description for the contents (like "LED" instead of "laser diode", etc).

Does anyone ever get in trouble for this?

I have yet to hear any anecdotes of trouble coming to someone for this practice.

i have not heard of anyone getting in trouble for it. it was also be pretty hard to based on the company. i received a laser from o-like the other day and it had the same return address as rayfoss. the day after the o-like laser came, i received 2 ipod cases from 2 different ebay sellers and both of those return address labels had the same exact return address as the lasers.
