Kipkay is great in some thing. Lasers is not one of them.
He makes money off people's ignorance.

Actually, MikeBP was the one with apsolute lowest rep here, he was around 750 in negative, had two brighter red squares in addition two 5 normal red. That's lower than Kipkays.... for now.

He"s a serious idiot, despite all the warning we gave him he simply ignores them.

Its all ego. He wont do what people ask him, because in his eyes, he is right. It doesnt matter that all the true laser vets, technicians, and a boatload of other experts are telling the same thing.

I was like that, then my friends had an intervention. Lesson I learned is, "When everyone around you is saying the same thing, and you are the only one thinking differently, you are wrong". Thats hard logic, and its tough to accept. Obviously Kip still has some things to learn.

Simply put, Kip needs to do more research and put a little more detail in his videos... before prisons get filled up with minors with laser pointers...

The issue is that crowd logic isn't always true, but when you're in that situation it's hard if not impossible to tell when you're genuinely right and when you're deluded. I guess it depends on the person, but in retrospect some people have had brilliant ideas ahead of their time, that went against conventional logic. On the other side of the fence are conspiracy theorists and nutters. The issue is, they both look very similar - just one has evidence to back up the claim. The effort it takes for someone to verify an extraordinary claim is often not worth it, so "visionaries" are bundled along with "nutters" too often. Brilliance and madness are so close...

I agree though, for nearly everyone it's safest to go with "you're wrong if you go against the experts".

On-topic (since this thread doesn't want to die yet):
It's ironic that KipKay is so hated, given that he has pushed a good few members our way. I guess he gives occasional examples of what not to do, and inspires interest, so it's not *all* bad.

Well in my case it was my friends. So I should of added, "if everyone around you, that loves you, is saying something else".... Because people who obviously love you have your best interest in heat. But that would not work for Kip LMAO.

I got here from AMK's video "What Kipkay doesnt tell you" LOL. So I guess in a way, I should thank Kip for getting me here. Even if it was secondary.

Here is my view of Kip...

Back in like 06, before he was sponsored by Make, and before his LLC Mini Mag laser hack, he actually had some pretty cool vids. They were just about basic electronic stuff and DIY hacks and what not, nothing to complicated, just time killer projects.

Than he made that Mini Mag vid. At the time, I was a noob to lasers, but not to electronics. I only had a few red pointers and a 5mW greenie. I'll admit that I never knew that a diode of a visible wavelength was used in DVD burners. Truth be told I came to this forum in 08 because of that video. Right away I learned that just a battery is not a properly regulated source of electricity for a diode like that. From then on I was hooked in the hobby.

After that his vids just got worse. Some were okay, but most were either already widely known hacks or possibly dangerous. As his popularity on You Tube grew his vids got worse and worse.

I think now he is so desperate to get a hack up every week, to keep his popularity on You Tube up, that he sacrifices quality and disregards safety to a bad degree. I'll admit I still watch his videos but his apparent lack of consideration for safety and his declining levels or sophistication in his mods and DIYs make it a dull and worrisome experience.

I used to like Kip, but not anymore.
Kip if you read this, please man, stop selling out and consider the ramifications of your videos. I think you can still turn it around.
