Hi Folks, First time member and long time visitor to the forum ....Have to give my regards to all the fantastic knowledge people have posted on this forum.
My story anyhow is that i have purchased as the title says is a 400mw 532nm from olike. The laser works fine though doesn't seem much brighter than my lazerer 200mw 532 classic but it does have a wider beam.
The strange thing is that when I unfocused the laser and make the beam wider , there is a very irregular dot which becomes almost a line fully unfocused.
Removing the lens and this is even more exaggerated . Is this normal for separate crystal green lasers? I know that my classic 200mw green produces a perfectly round spot unfocused .
Is the performance of the laser affected by this beam ?

Kind Regards
Dan.

Can you post a couple of pictures of what you're referring to?

Completely unfocused, and without the lens.

These do tend to mode hop a lot, but a line seems rather strange.

With regards to brightness... you should be able to see that it's brighter, but the way we perceive brightness is not linear so doubling the power does no mean doubling the brightness. With a thicker beam you're also spreading out the photons a bit more, so even a very low beam diameter 100mW green laser could subjectively appear brighter than a much more powerful laser with a thick beam.

Hmm, well it could be the laser is stuck on tem02 or tem03.

Unfortunately there is nothing to be done about it. In terms of power, it shouldn't be impacted, and with the dot focused the laser should still work great.

It's not at all uncommon for cheaper dpss lasers (such as this) to mode hop like crazy, the fact that yours is just stuck on one mode is not necessarily a bad thing.

Thanks for the reassurance ... was afraid that I'd got a defective laser. Still not fully convenced about the power but will try to have it checked out.
Thanks again.

Look at your optics too. You can unscrew the entire front piece. Make sure no stray glue is in the way.
