hey whatup, new-ish to the forum, looking for a green laser and as of right now i'm a bit discouraged because i know what i want but i'm having trouble justifying the expense. I know i want burning ability up to a cigarette hopefully (no i don't smoke cigarettes) but it seems like i should either settle for a weak laser <100 or just go for what i want and only have to buy one >200. Any advice out there?

Honestly, if you're hungry for that much power, you'll be very disappointed by anything less than that. As for cost, well, this is a VERY expensive hobby, among the most expensive you could choose to undertake.

If you really, really want it, I would go for it. Cost is going to be an issue no matter where you go in the laser world, just because of the nature of them.

I spent a LOT on my Dragonlasers Spartan 300mW, and it's by far the greatest piece of technology I've ever owned.

To give you an idea of what you get at 300mW, check out my Youtube:

What type of budget are you working with? Perhaps I can get you a deal on a nice Prometheus 300mW ;)

300 mw sounds pretty costly from what i've seen. i can spend maybe 2 to 300, it'll be tuff for me to justify any more than that, guess i'm just stingy but i like to keep my one time purchases in that range. whoknows though i might just lose my mind over this laser hobby, i really want one.

You certainly wouldn't be the first. We're all a little loopy around here.

Of coarse there is always http://www.dealextreme.com/products.dx/category.911 but I don't recommend them because there are serious quality issues with their products. I just wanted to put it out there because I'm sure someone eventually will. I think it's best to save your money for something else, but depending on how serious you are. I'm very close to buying an RPL, I just might place my order today :). It is allot of money, and yes, it is very easy to go crazy over our hobbies due to the battle in our minds over wants and needs, but hey, money comes and goes.

Bottom line: Any cool hobby is an expensive one!

Good luck, and cheers!
