If you've been here longer than 9 months then move along, nothing to see here!

If you are a noob like me and have been thinking about lasers as flashlight hosts with laser parts inside, let me radically alter your perspective.

At least it made me think differently...

What an interesting person and interesting idea!

Now let's wait and see which vet rips me for necro-posting first...

Necro-posting is when you actually POST on an old dead Thread...
not when you only point to it from a recent Thread...

I like to move along when I feel its time... :eg:

Honestly I don't have a password for the VET forum. I never asked for it. The mods and the admin will agreed to this.

You are definitely worthy of Vet status my friend!

And that flashlight actually looks pretty cool. Sterling Silver? Damn, it's like a big heatsink! haha

The main problem with this one is that StridAst hasn't posted since June of last year

This may cause him to repost, but is unlikely this will help

Maybe me saying that will trigger it, eh?

In any event, even though mine is not as "fancy" as his, I love my silver laser

I don't know either, but I attempted to send him an email through the forum. It was just a completely different idea of what a laser could be for me. I tend to lose the forest for the trees and stumbling on that made me realize there is a lot more that can be done than just repurposing flashlights!

It was a "Whoah" moment for me.

I really should post more often. I still lurk from time to time but I've been far from active. (obviously.) Just got too tangled up in life in general for much hobby time for a long time.

I think I'll snap a picture of one of my mostly ready to cast hosts that are currently in wax/plastic form and get some feedback. I've got a 18650 host mostly ready for casting, However the weight is a little cost prohibitive. The weight is about 24.2 grams before casting. which would yield a casting that weighs 249 grams. Which is about $250 for the silver alone as that's just over 8 troy ounces. Toss in the larger costs of casting (have to use our largest flasks and the many many hours of labor in finishing it, end price would end up being around $450 or so. =/ Which might be more then anyone would want to pay although at 8 troy ounces of silver.

Hmm.

Really amazing work. This is the first I've seen them. Looking forward to seeing what else you come up with.

ok Here's some pictures of the early work on the 18650 host. Right now, it's still in plastic/wax. Try to ignore the different colors. There is an 18650 battery inside the host (mostly to try to show scale better, though I think I failed at this) The clear parts are plastic, the blue, green, and pink parts are various harnesses of wax. The host needs another hour or so of work before it's ready to actually cast. and probably 6-8 hours of cleanup work after it's cast.

Been sitting on this partway done host for a while. I suspect in it's current state nobody would get a good feel for how it will look when finished, if you aren't used to casting, it's hard to look at a wax/plastic form and visualize it in metal. I was thinking about putting some enamel down in the recessed areas on the grip section. (transparent colored, but epoxy based, not true glass enamel). Although I hadn't really decided on color, nor does this have a setting made yet for a gemstone, as I've not decided on what color scheme etc.

Casting looks fascinating - you are right though - it is very hard for me to imagine that finished!

Sorry to necro-post, but StridAst, this is actually just what I am looking for ^_^

My birthday is coming up, and I think I will want one of your solid silver hosts for a present >:D

That is not a necropost! It's only a few days old... Not even room temp yet. :D
