The detachable laser head contains its own driver board so can operate from the 3V mains adapter (supplied) or batteries. It is supplied with a line generator disc (to project a line suitable for alignment or scanning which can be removed easily to give a focusable dot pattern (like a pointer).

Specification
Wavelength : 660nm +/-5nm
Output Power : 5mW measured before optical grating (spot or dot pattern)
Operating Voltage: 3.0 – 5.0V
Current: <80mA controlled by ACC driver circuit
Dimensions: 13.5mm diameter x 45mm
Pattern: Spot or Line pattern generated by optical grating (supplied)
Lifetime: >4000hrs
Operating Temperature: 10 – 40°C
Power Supply: 3V , 1000mA output, 100-240V in
Plug Pattern: 2 flat pins (Adapter to UK style available if required - Part No. OFL 37)

Firstly, welcome to LPF. Tell us a little about yourself in the, 'Welcome', section.

As to your request... In short it probably won't be worth it. You would have to change the driver as the output appears to be below 80mA, far short of the required 400 or so needed for the common LPC-815 diodes. You'd then have wrecked what looks to be a nice, low powered laser.

I would just remember this as your first laser purchase and save a place for it in your own nostalgia box. Building your own burner from parts available on Odicforce is not difficult if you have a few soldering skills and can be achieved for around £20. Check out the kits Jon sells, he has a non-ebay store too at Odicforce.com . Try this link - Focusing Laser Host with Matching High Power Red Laser Diode Driver - Detailed item view - OdicForce Lasers Online Shop . you'll need to buy a diode but he sells those too! I've built many of them and they are a good starting point. If you don't think you're up to building it then ask Jon to do it, or I can if he's busy.

Enjoy and get yourself some goggles whilst you're there.

M
:)
