Noob building a laser with questions

Hi Laserpointerfourms!
I made this account because I'd like to build a laser.
If I were to put the following together would it work and be able to burn things?

1. LM317 (this one: http://www.amazon.com/10PCS-LM317-L...?ie=UTF8&qid=1435607198&sr=8-3&keywords=LM317

3. 10 ohm resistor (can I use a potenciometer? if so which one do you recommend?)

4. 200mw 808nm Infrared 4.2v-5v laser (from here: http://www.amazon.com/Focusable-Inf...1435606512&sr=8-4&keywords=200+mw+laser+diode)

5. These goggles (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=18TJEJ7ZXEM6NVK3HANG\)

Are there cheaper alternatives to the items I have listed above? I'd like to use amazon to purchase these items.

For starters, I would really not recommend a IR laser diode for a first build. Most of us stay very far away from them. they are very dangerous because they seem very dim, so it gives you a fake sense of safeness, and 2 because they don't have a beam, so there's no prettiness like with a visible lasers. I would recommend a LPC-826 or similar red laser diode as they are cheap and can burn quite well too.

Second, if you are messing with higher powered lasers and (especially) burning, you should get certified glasses, like the eagle pair on survival lasers Eagle Pair® 190-400nm & 580-760nm Laser Safety Goggles. Those cheap glasses on amazon/ebay are very unreliable and differ from each other a lot. No two are the same.

Yes he is correct in all mentioned we want to know who you are. And yes go with a 445.450.638.520 and maybe 405nm wavelengths. You can see them safety first ,the eagle glasses are perfect and affordable . Burning stuff well that's ok but there's more to this than just that. You should read up first and read,read ,read. I can't emphasis that enough. There's a lot of things you should know first here you'll find a multitude of info.

I wonder if someone was reading about the Barber Cut game. I can't think of any other reason a new person would want an invisible burning laser as a first.
