Optotronics says that RPLs are pumped by a 2.5W diode running at 2.4W :p It says so on the specs part of their site.Aseras claims his RPL diode reaches 2.9W.There you go, something to think about :D

Yep, I can almost sense it. I wonder why Optotronics doesn't sell an IR RPL. There must be some limit to the power allowed in public...

likewhat said:
The 808 is used as a pump to get a population inversion in a gain medium that is doped with Nd. The nonlinear crystal doubles the frequency of the light output from the Nd gain medium. The 808 nm laser is not doubled or it would be 404 nm.

The crystals can be used to make other colors yes, but not a continuum, only harmonics or additions of the light that is input to them. There are different crystals for different colors in order to satisfy the phase matching condition that is required to double the light.

If you just want power then you can use the diode by itself, but 808 nm diodes arent particularly visible which makes for a pretty crappy pointer.

i could never understand why when, for example, 808nm are doubled they are transformed into 404nm. shouldnt it be 1616nm (1,616um)?
i know what a wavelength is but what i said before is the biggest question i ever had about them.

if a wavelength is doubled, shouldnt its "length" be larger? why does it get shorter? :-X

ohh...
then what you do is double THE FREQUENCY...that's why it divides the wavelength... (lambda = v / f) :D

thx.

I think pseudo sells them. :-/

Yea , it's actually called frequency doubling , not wavelength doubling anyway. :p
