Nightclub lasers - A few Q's

So, I was wondering, what's the correct term for used nightclub lasers? Not the module part, as I understand what a module is, but the aspect that gives it the optical effects it has. Also, what are the good brands to look out for? I got a good idea on sites selling pointers, but am a bit clueless when it comes to lasers like these.

Night club lasers? I've never heard of something like that before.

So, you go clubbing with these lasers so you can shine them into the eyes of guys eyeing off your girlfriend or something? :-?

I have been told that Lanling sells decent scanners on Ebay. Andy could probably point you in the right direction, I'm sure.

Wow, those look great.  Can anyone else comment on these?

Also, what about eye damage with these?  I have no idea, but still the output powers are quite high...

I can't believe I don't have any money... That RGY+RGY is a score...

The power of these lasers is usually in the range 50-200mW. Only 1mW or higher can damage your eyes when looking into it continuously (conservative guess).

When a laser scanner draws it's patterns across the dance floor, the beam might enter your eye, but only for an instant. Your pupil might be something like 5mm while the path of the beam, measured at the distance of your eye to the scanner, is tens of meters. In other word, only less than 1/1000th part of the light actually enters your eyes directly.

I see, thanks. So what about proximity? Is there any given distance the laser has to be from they to make it safe for people to enjoy? I.e 20ft for example...

It still sucks though. I had these scan my eyes lots of times and is not pleasant.It brings tears to your eyes after a while.The club I've been probably had some idiots working on the laser shows. :-/ Really gotta be careful.

This question? Which question? If that one, you're not exactly going to set it up 5 ft away from people and go "look at this..."
