Nifty things to do with lasers?

Well,

I'm starting to grow bored of lasers,
mostly because I'm just waiting for my higher powered ones to arrive.

In the meantime, what can I do with the stuff I've got?

I'm talking visuals and awesome light shows.

I've tossed up buying some funky crystals etc.
(Haven't though since the only ones I can find are from incense-burning hippy shops and are way too expensive)

Anyways,
what do the members of LPF do in their free time with lasers?

Post pics!

Before I had a burning laser, I just fogged up my room and played with my leadlight. That usually beat boredom for a while.

I know mostly on ebay, they sell it in very small pebbles called girisol quartz. The larger egg, and spheres are pricey, $39 to $280 for ~1 1/3 inch to 2 1/4 inch. So be sure to get a ticket for the 40 mm sphere I am donating. Quartz crystals of size are cool @ ~ $10 - $15 per inch of length. I also find larger CZ gems fun to put in a beam, (be careful of reflections). Cheap large CZ are in rings and earrings from flea markets to Kmarts etc.

haha ;D Some people get board of shit quick or eventually like video games, same vagina, lasers, and other endeavors/hobbies. One of my favorite things to do is to go to the mountains and take a nice nature hike/walk/climb. In the summer, I go cliff-jumping, where there are 3 jumps, 30’ 25’, 80’. (oh yeah, landing in natural spring pools). My old roommate and I would go every weekend either on Sat or Sun or both. Well, even that got old for me. You can’t abuse what entertains you, or it will loose it’s “cool”. You need to remember to respect what you do for fun to ultimately be occupied contently.

Perhaps you should try to make some laser pictures, or make a video. Here is my first video of something I tried with some friends for fun with lasers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-UjZe3HWXU

What is this "boredom" thing of which you speak? I haven't had time to be bored for decades now... :D

I'm with Ace82 on this one. Put 'em down and get outside man! Get some exercise! Try laser limbo... ;D LOL

It depends on the inclusions. My optically clear quartz are almost invisible to it. "Fused" quartz (basically glass) changes the beam to green while in the quartz (like Milos' New York paperweights). Rutilated quartz sparkles nicely. I have some quartz from the Himalaya Mine that has fluorapatites as inclusions. They create bright orange spots shining from inside the quartz. Very cool.

Don't be afraid to just shine the Blu-Ray at plain looking rocks. Often the best "glowers" look very plain (nay even ugly) in daylight.

Shoot theme at photosensors of street lights and put em out of action, search youtube and find out how.

Shoot security cams, read my post in the laser hacks thread in the Moding section for info on dangers and effects of this one.

Also I got into optics that can boost your lasers power by alot at realy short range.

You have a fog machine?

How much do one of those go for anyway?

The nooby versions that is.
I bought a fog machine at walmart for just under $20 a week or so before Halloween. It puts out a nice amount of fog too, I bought it a few years ago before I got into lasers and it still works fine. Fog machines are a must for laser enthusiasts IMO.

And Ace82....HAHA!!

At first I was like "oh god this is going to be horrible... some dudes waving lasers around..." but by the time it got like 1/3 or 1/2 of the way through the video I was like "damn... a bunch of guys waving lasers around looks badass" ;D

Need to get crystals....

Also a red and a blue!

And don't worry I'm not some basement dweller who doesn't see the light of day :p

When I said bored I meant the things I was doing with the greens were becoming boring.
