Grainde, how much for the smooth host with an mitsu 638nm 500mw in there? Maybe 1 watt of red. Or maybe the 16X BDR-209 Bluray Diode? Just curious. Not looking for power so much here, as much as expanding my collection with wavelength and host style variation.

Will send a PM in a few moments:beer:

Beautiful!

Thanks, Sinner made some of the best and most functional hosts on the forum.

How much would a build around 500mW in one of those small copper or alu copper hosts cost?

What diode/ wavelength were you after and which host? The smaller copper pen host has already been sold, but the copper head and cypreus all copper are available. If you would like one of the smaller alu hosts, there are 3 to choose from - from left to right in the pic below; Phobos, V1 and Envy.

Edit: FYI the laser in my Avatar is a Phobos! ;)

I was thinking about either 405, 445, 450 nm or 650, 660 nm

Edit: the phobos looks pretty good, I was after the first and second from second picture, but now i would also consider the phobos.

Ok here are some of the possibilities at 500 mW:

405 - SO6J @ approx. 350 mA
445 / 450 - A140 / M140 /PLTB450B at low current approx. 1 A
*638 - Oclaro 700 @ approx. 700 mA

*Please note the 650s / 660s are lower powered single modes. Here you could get a laser with between 200 - 250 mW. So which wavelength would you prefer?

I do quite like the 445 or I'd go with the 250mw red one, which one would you recommend for a first laser?

The 445 will be much more powerful and could theoretically be set at a higher current for a larger output at a later date - up to 1.8 A max for approx. 2 W. The beam is however more divergent and will give you an elongated multi-mode line as opposed to the clean single mode dot from a lower powered 650 red.

Although lower powered lasers are recommended for beginners, the 650 will still give approx 250 mW. This means that you must take just as much care with this, as you would with the 445! Both of these can damage eyes quicker than you can blink. As such please make sure you have the correct safety googles for your laser.

The choice would then not be based on power, but rather your colour preference, beam specs, dot shape and desired application (power could of course be relevant here). ;)

Something to keep in mind for a first laser is that our eyes are only 10% as sensitive to blue or red compared to green. A blue 445nm laser will be about as bright as a green laser which is ten times less powerful.

^^^Good point Alaskan! In terms of visibility a 520 at the same power would be much more visible than either a red or blue.

I have a cheaper 538nm laser on it's way rated at 5mw, but probably overspec and more like 20mw, you never know with ebay :D. How do they compare price wise? The 445nm will probably be more expensive I'd guess, right? Also 405 would probably be the best burner. One more thing how much are the hosts?

You cant really compare cheap ebay pens to high power custom lasers. ;) Was that a 638 or 532 you ordered?

Im not selling the hosts on their own, but as custom builds. I will send you a quote via PM for a 445 in the aluminium hosts shown earlier - the three hosts; Phobos, V1 and Envy are all the same price.

I know they don't go anywhere close to being compareable, it was 538nm. I wanted something to try the double slit experiment with :D

Looking forward for the quote, one more question the first two hosts from left on the second picture those are probably gone, right? They would be nice for a green laser.

Just sent you a PM. :) The two hosts on the left; the full copper Cypreus and the Copper head are still available.
