Re: New Boost Driver in Dev *Asking for investors*

All I can say is get an investment and return rate agreement, with non-fulfillment penalty clauses in it, drafted by a lawyer and signed by him unless you don't really care if you actually get any return back. I've dealt with scenarios like this before. 9 time out of 10 they will decide 'splitting the profits' isn't worth it and stop unless they're legally held to it. Partially due to greed, and partially due it to being a royal pain to keep up with it all.

And the contract is still probably moot unless your in the same country with him as well.

Just my two cents.

I hope this works out.. it sounds awesome.

And what will it be called? Maybe Magic Driver, since its awesome sounding if it works :)

@bobhaha...
If you have a chance I still would need a response
to my Post #27...:)

Jerry

From what he told me there has not been a prototype built yet as that was the first thing that I asked him about. I was looking to see possibly a video showing the current draw 3V-4.2V when running @ 1.8A, stable current voltage range and a duration run showing the current stability.

He said the engineer has run the design only through a simulator at this point.:undecided:

Huh..

Well, I know I'd invest in a heartbeat if there was a video of the prototype. Or hell, a breadboarded version. I just wanna see it. Kinda hard to throw money at words.. :undecided:

Re: New Boost Driver in Dev *Asking for investors*

Ok, sorry guys for the delayed response. Like I said you could have PM'd me for more info instead of just assuming. Also I did say in this thread that investors will get more then they paid for.

Here is the PM I have been sending out to people when they have asked about the investment opportunity.

I'm offering a 5% return rate for anything <$200 and a 10% return rate for anything >$200. Therefore if you invest $200 you will get $20 back as a return + your original $200 + a driver. The reason for that is... if anything needs to be redesigned I don't have just my $1100 to spend, but instead I have $2200. So in essence $1100 goes to the engineer and the my money will be a buffer.. so if more money is needed I have it on hand. Once the final product is designed and ready to go. The investors money will be returned plus a little extra for helping out.

I hope to see the driver hit the market by mid next month, but it could be earlier or later then that.

Hope that answers all your questions.

As you may or may not know electronics is a busy business and just to get a hold of the engineer takes days of emails back and forth. The last time I have spoken to him was two nights ago at 4 am in the morning. We were going over the summary for the project. Which I can sent to anyone via PM (has personal info so rather not post it publicly). I will now request him to make a working model if that is what the majority will like to see before investing.

Keep the comments coming and suggestions... I'm trying to answer everyones questions so please be patient.

Thank you.

Well that sounds pretty good actually, and is understandable. And can you send that thing via pm? It sounds interesting.

Also, can't wait to see a working model! It should be epic!

Wait, so you are expecting to go simulator to market in around three weeks? Unless your driver will really be Magic, this will never happen. Good products can take years of designing.

Re: New Boost Driver in Dev *Asking for investors*

I was assured by the engineer of 30+ years that he has a working prototype (in simulation) and the first batch (5-10 boards) will be made and tested thoroughly once payment is received.

I have organized an emergency interview with him tonight and I'm going to ask him a few questions as well as get him to make a working prototype first. I'm using his experience to help guide what I'm organizing, so if this is the industry standard of doing things, I think this is the best way of doing it.

Again I do appreciate every ones input. Please give me some time to sort this out.

Thank you.

Re: New Boost Driver in Dev *Asking for investors*

I hate to keep being cynical but i've met more than my share of 'experienced' people in the field they're in who know next to nothing about what they're talking about. In general, the louder they brag about their 'experience', the less actual knowledge they really have.

I also have to agree with Johnyz.. Nothing i've ever designed in the simulator.. has worked correctly in the real world on the first try. Expect to go through 4 or 5 revisions/prototypes before you end up with something that's both stable, and run at the currents you want. I also think it'll likely end up larger than a flexdrive if you really want it to do 2A.

If this was easy, everybody would be doing it after all.

The engineer may know his stuff.... but sorry bobhaha.... I've been
in the Electronics R&D for over 25 years and a simulation or just a
schematic is not a tested in real life.. working prototype...

For the $1100.00 how many working drivers will be included in the
1st production batch to be put up for sale... or is $1100.00 only
the engineering costs

I will bring this all up with the engineer tonight. I am going to have an interview with him in 3 hours, so please stay tuned. This is my first interaction with an electronic engineer and I'm going off his advice. So if you think this is the incorrect way of doing things I will pull him up on it and converse with you guys as well.

Re: New Boost Driver in Dev *Asking for investors*

Sounds good. I mean I've been able to get from simulator to a board on the first try... however what I was doing wasn't really as fiddly as a driver board (led cube controller), but who knows, right?

Re: New Boost Driver in Dev *Asking for investors*

Boost drivers are complex enough that even small variables in component values can drastically change how the circuit behaves.

Re: New Boost Driver in Dev *Asking for investors*

Yeah, my circuit board was all logic based, so variables didn't really hurt it at all. I can imagine a driver board hating resistor variance.

Edit: also, class 1 laser :D
