I feel for you. The term "spoonfed" seems to be the in thing on this forum.

I have joined many forums to get help in areas that I am not familar with. Usually people on the forums are VERY helpful and give great advice. However, I have found this one to be very un-friendly.

I am not educated in lasers, LEDs, diodes or whatever. I came here for help. The first thing that happens is I get made fun of with slap happy smilies. And then I am told I will not be "spoonfed" information.

I DID research older posts and found one that was close to what I was looking for, however, it seems that the folks who nicely responded on that thread are no longer posting here. :(

I feel for you....

Did you or did you not find the info that you were looking
for...
Did you or did you not get the info without paying a fee.

Whining about your imaginary "butt hurt" when it was obvious
that you did absolutely no research on your subject will not
help you in the long run on the Forum.

I just re-read that whole other thread you referred to and
found no members that are no longer posting on the Forum.

I would suggest that you take Eud's generous offer to answer
any and all future questions you have by PM to Eud.

You don't seem to be ready for this Forum.. Perhaps another
Forum would suit you better since you are so unhappy here.:cryyy:

Jerry no i have not had my question on "Which websites to buy on?" answered. And you don't seem to be ready for this Forum.. Perhaps another
Forum would suit you better since you are so unhappy here. You would rather take the time to tell me that u wont spoon feed me instead of answering a very simple question. Anyway yes, i have found my answer now from research and other peoples posts. In my opinion, O-like is the best because of how cheap and good quality their lasers are and also their customer service.

Jerry, c'mon now, to be perfectly fair, sometimes it actually very difficult to find some grass-roots basic stuff that's implied to be known across the forum.

Find me one thread that explains EXACTLY what an Aixiz module is, what does it do, how it's used, and where to buy it, and then tell me exact procedure how you've found it.

Do you expect a new guy to be capable of following that train of thought to find such threads? 'Fcourse not, it requires before-hand knowledge.

So skipping out of the paradoxial loop here, I will now offer all the help new guys can need to get started.

I should start a group, "LPF Welcoming comittee and help desk" :p

Eud... everyone here know that I don't build Laser Pointers
yet I know how to assemble one using an Aixiz Module.
I know how to press fit an LD and even know how to properly
remove it. I know how to build a driver and how to set it to
any current that I would need.

How do you think I learned all this technical Laser related
information...

When I first came to this Forum I read as much as I could
about Lasers/Drivers/Hosts/Assembly so that I would not
look like a clueless noob. And that was done for months
BEFORE I registered here.

Once I was registered on the Forum I continued to read and
see how the Forum worked to get me up to speed about
Forum etiquette and what not to do so that I wouldn't look
like a clueless noob to the Forum.

Then and only then did I post on the Forum..

Maybe it's just me... but I've always thought that I should
wipe my own butt... and I make an effort to do that by
doing my own research.

I run a company and I can find the answer to almost any
question that I may have by the simple click of a mouse.
I the far past I could do it by thumbing through Electronic
technical manuals.

Any info is out there for the NON Lazy....

BTW... No need to open a "LPF Welcoming comittee and
help desk".:eg:

Ive bookmarked your offer above and will send all the
lazy noobs to you directly...:crackup::crackup::crackup:;)

But you have to remember that not everybody is capable of fast and efficient information hunt - it requires a specific mindset that people who are just starting out do not yet have.

Besides, you can't tell me that you never asked a single question in your starting days. We all did, right?

There's spoonfeeding, and then there's just a minor nudge in the right direction - a lot of people here just simply require the latter. People who require the former don't usually end up interested in electronics, optics, lasers, computers, whatever, and join up forums. Or any forums :p

I am always careful with what I'm asking for. I've had quite a few life lessons on that.

Trust me on that.

I, for one, commend Eud and gave my first +1 rep for what seems like a genuine and sincere desire to help others and spread information.

I hope that anyone will not go out of their way to see to it that he is intentionally bombarded with a flood of questions.

I joined LPF a month ago and I was too afraid of negative rep or the "spoonfeed" response to ask any questions whatsoever. I found every question I had could be answered by using the forums search bar (therefore if I asked anything I hadn't used the search bar enough). I think I took it to the opposite extreme. I've spent much of the last month reading countless posts, following links, re-reading again after I understood more so it actually made sense, etc., etc. Problem is I have an 11month old son and work atleast 50 hours a week. I really didn't have the amount of free time available that it took to do that much research. Now my son's mom is pretty much "anti-laser" (I'm trying to work on that) and laserpointerforums.com magically will not load on the computers at my work any longer.

I found it refreshing to see Eud offer to help answer new members questions and I enjoyed reading his "what is what" tutorial yesterday.

I wonder if a stickied list of members who are willing to answer questions may help reduce the number of posts of newbie questions that usually annoy many people?

Most members of the Forum are always ready to answer
questions posed.

Some of the misunderstanding in the responses from some
vets is because we've heard the proverbial "will it burn"
or "how do I Pot Mod" or "I've read the entire Forum and
can't find the answer to my question... How do you make
a Laser"....

It is obviously clear that "these" type of new members have
made no effort to do the least amount of reading on the Forum
and are seen with their hand stretched out for a free non
effort ride.

The info is here on the Forum. It is FREE to anyone that will
make the smallest effort to read it.

If the questions are new and interesting most of the Forum
members WILL make an effort to supply answers as we
have done many many times in the past....

Here is a typical Lazy Noob as viewed by the majority of
the Forum......

Don't you think it's only a little bit weird that with all the info so very "clearly, freely, easily" accessible all over the forums, we still have people asking those questions?

Let's not have any illusions of what sort of info actually is freely available - like I said, you still cannot find one single thread explaining exactly what an Aixiz module is and how it's used in the General, and Tutorial sections, the only two logical places to look for the fundemantal starting information.

Typing "What is Aixiz module" into Google Search bar yiels a majority of threads selling new Copper modules, 9mm version modules, and a 5 year old thread about how to disassemble an Aixiz module.

So how do believe I should find it? Don't tell me to look for "The I Want to build a laser thread". I don't know it exists, I don't know anything, I just appeared out of nowhere, for the sake of argument.

There is no sarcasm involved...

This is a hobbyists Forum and yes some of us are
Professionals. I keep it very professional when I
deal with professionals.

Perhaps you didn't understand what you asked for.
It was very clear to me...

You (I thought jokingly) asked to have new
members sent to you by PM with their common
questions.

I jokingly said I would send the members
that didn't want to do their own research
to you.

You made it clear that you were not kidding and
asked that I add your Profile and offer to answer
all questions for new members to my Welcome text.

I jokingly state that you should be careful what
you ask for...

You re-affirmed your offer to have the new members
sent to you by stating that you are always careful
what you ask for...

I thought it was a good idea which might stop the
onslaught of repetitive questions on the Forum and
went with what you asked.

Are you now saying that you don't want to have
the new members PM you with questions..

Are you saying that you made a mistake to have
asked me add your Profile link and offer to my
Welcome text to new members...

You have me a bit confused.....:undecided:

Actually, you know what, this makes me want to change my stance on things around here. I am a fairly new member, but I did learn a bit about lasers in the last few years. And, although it is irritating at times to see repetitive questions, from now on I'll restrain any mean remarks I might have and I'll try to help as many new members as I can whenever I see a question.
