Hello again everyone. It seems my recent post is one of the victims from the server upgrade, so here it is again. If you replied previously, I did not see it.

I'm looking for a source of motors to use for a spirograph. Preferably 12v as everyting will be running from a battery, and so far I don't need a regulator.

I'm surprised to find a wide sampling of computer fans that don't spin in reverse, and I'd like to be able to reverse the motors.

So far I've only been able to locate one computer fan that's actually advertised to be reversible - Micro Center - Akust Reversible 120mm Speed Control Fan FG00-0030-AKS

BTW, what have others found to be a good RPM to shoot for? The fan above is about 2000RPM - not sure if that's enough. What do you think? Got any other suggestions for motors? Thanks!

If you have some old CD/DVD readers/writers.. you can get the motors that control the door if you need the easier to deal with motors with only POSITIVE and NEGATIVE pins... or you can get the brushless motors that rotate the disk .. but they are harder to control you need to make a microcontroller circuit for them...

I used 4 motors of the CD door mechanism ... and control them just by potentiometers for mine spirograph ... it works great :)

I just used 4 standard 3V hobby motors from my local electronics store. They are about 3$ each. Works great with 2 AA and 100Ohm pots.

I got a few motors out of a scrap cd/dvd player and they run fine of a 9v

they also can be reversed.
