Burning bugs with lasers is pretty hard to do. You also need goggles or your retinas will be going up in smoke faster than the bug. It's easier to shoot bugs off the wall with a BB gun IMO (which is very fun)

I thought that too. But after hitting a sheetrock screw, the BB ricocheting, bouncing off and breaking a glass picture frame and wiping out the back sliding door, I decided it was not a good idea anymore So did my wife... I was wearing safety goggles, though. She didn't think that accounted for anything

You forgot the first 2 steps.
1. water proof all walls and openings in the house.
2. fill house with water.

At that point you don't need any of the other steps though. Most spiders don't go underwater.

I keep several spiders as pets. They aren't so bad once you get to know them....

step 2.5 = get scuba gear

I have refined bug killing techniques with my 445. arctic wouldnt work well cos u cant focus it. I just focus the point beside the insect. they run once i hit em but by then its focused. I imagine a 12X 405nm would be very effective. that or high power IR diode laser, dunno if IR will burn em as easily.

Man every time i see that pic of the centipede i cringe lol. I hate those suckers, and there sooooo fast. I wonder how there speed to size ratio compares to a vehicle haha. Anyways on a serious note, use a shoe or call pest control would be my advice. Also sleep with your mouth closed!

Well, I have to admit it's not as cool as taking the little 8 legged invaders out with a high energy beam... but it works like a charm-

Go and get yourself one of the new Dyson vacuums with the long handle extension, the one you put attachments on. The standard accessory hose with the 2 foot extender on it will keep you 3-4 feet from the offending creature and you never have to touch them at all. These new Dysons have so much suction that nothing gets away from them and the "cyclone action" of the vacuum makes for the perfect little see-through arachnid death chamber.

I discovered this because I feel about wasps the way you do about spiders and in the mid-west we have a LOT of wasps in the spring and summer. I had to figure out a way to take them out instantly while having no worries about them escaping- and most of the time it is a wasp nest with a dozen or so of the little buggars inside. Tell you what- I have taken down at least 15 full nests in the past year or so and never got stung once. They are extremely effective against bugs that like to "get away" quickly. I have shot a nest of wasps before with wasp killer and still been stung but I NEVER worry about getting them with the Dyson.

I discovered one more interesting thing about this machine... When I am finished de-populating the insect world and destroying all invaders I can use it to clean my house and it does a remarkably effective job with that as well. Now if it only had a high energy laser on it...

If you are looking for a way to take out critters from a distance without using open flame, standard ammunition or something that will knock big holes in your wall then I would suggest getting a Dyson. Simple, clean and highly effective.

Screw these things. My beach house was over run. You can actually hear the big ones walking around on the walls. One ran up my couch arm, bit my arm, and took off. Had a bite mark for 3 weeks. It was war after that. I soaked the entire house in bug spray, closed off all open cracks, and wall openings around drains ect. Which is what you should do with your spider problem. I'm sure you can get some kind of bug spray, and a can of expandable foam. Soak your place, and spend a couple of days at your girls house. Then seal off the cracks.

Get a cheap air gun you don't mind ruining, and get it pumped, cocked etc. then put a little handful of sand, salt, or sugar down the barrel.

Bug shotgun.

Really? Geeze. Maybe I'm just lucky where I live, but I can't even remember the last time I saw one of those. I do see really small silverfish though, they're similar but not quite as creepy. And ants and mosquitoes are bad around here.

Me either, till I moved to the beach. They come up in the drains, and cracks like silverfish. Also, as mentioned, the fastest bug I ever saw.

Wasp Spray, shoots over 2mtrs, and spiders hate it. Simple.

Use it all the time :P . If you ever see the size of spiders where I live, dam. I remember seing a picture here on the forums, about spiders with life bars, lol

Not the tarantulas often, but big huntsman spiders, and mouse spiders, they are creepy, the way they crawl, and follow another males track.

I recall a night when one crawled past, seconds later, another one, then another, then another, ect. 7 in total, all out looking for a female.

Lasers are good for many things. Killing spiders is not one of them.

quite the contrary.. depending on the size of the spider a laser set up to do a single high powered pulse will easily kill off a spider in one go.. very similar to how they use them to kill the mosquitoes.
