Hello, I am a 15 year old living in Brookfield, Wisconsin. I broke my leg, and was looking around on the internet, when I discovered the hobby of lasers. This is very interesting, and I currently have two 5mw 532nm pen lasers. I was looking to get an upgrade by building my first powerful laser. I would like to apologize in advance for posting like 4 times in 24 hours, I am finally figuring out how to use the website.

Onto my build. After about 2 hours of research and planning, I think my build might be in working order.

A link to the google doc I made

Here are the parts I plan to use:

Power Source: Undetermined

Diode: 2W Copper 445nm M140

Module: LD Module

Driver: X-Drive

Lens: G-2 Glass Lens

All included with Diode, Here

Host: C6 Host

Heat Sink: Black 12mm Anodized Aluminum

Safety Goggles: Skyper Safety Eyewear

All I ask is that someone with more experience than me can look over this build, and point out any mistakes I made, or improvements I can make. I currently have not selected a Power Source yet, and would love some insight on some good batteries that are rechargeable. I hope this post is much better than my previous ones, and thanks in advance.:yh:

Quick noob question about eye damage. Say im using a laser in my garage, of course I will use safety glasses. But say im outside in the nighttime, do I still need safety glasses? Does the damage come from reflections and extreme brightness in a confined area, or does it come from a different source?

Reflections, along with direct eye exposure will cause eye damage. Trust me though, looking at a bright laser dot will quickly make you look away anyway.

Looking at the beam of a laser at nighttime can not cause any eye damage :)

If you use goggles at night outside, you won't see anything :) Eye damage comes from reclections and direct exposureI. I.e. Part of the beam reflects off a mirror, diffuse reflections off surfaces like a wall or floor, or someone shining a laser in your face.

Your parts look good :) you will need 2 li-ions, 2x16340's or 18350's to fit in the battery tube.

You will need a blank battery contact board.

Survival Laser Driver

I would also recommend a couple dust caps (lens covers).

Silicone Lens Cap

I hope this helps you!

Thank You! I had been wondering what I would connect to the batteries, thanks for pointing out a blank contact board!

The x drive won't touch the driver pill with it mounted like that, will it?
I can measure the distances of everything when I get home in the morning.
