I recently purchased my first laser. Jetlasers equality series 452 with 2000mw.
It is very visible at night and looks great. Im not sure how to tell how much power it is outputting. From a burning standpoint what should this laser be able to burn? It cannot seem to burn through paper. Could batteries be the problem. I have in it an 18650 li lion i had from a vape. I am also a newb and just dont know what to expect from a 2w laser. What should it be capable of? Thanks in advance for any and all replies :thanks:

Uh you need to focus the front of the laser it should have a cap or something to turn ? And yes a 2w laser even unfocused should burn like hell, try put it close to a cd case or something otherwise its sounds weak battery.

I'm pretty sure that the Jetlasers 445nm equality series lasers call for (2) 16340 batteries; with one 18650 battery, your output will be very weak! Also, I think that your laser is a fixed focus (non-focusable) model.
If there is room in the battery compartment, you may be able to substitute (2) 18350 batteries, for a longer run time; check with Jetlaser to be sure.
Be sure and use high quality batteries for the best performance!

this is your problem you cant use just one battery.

The PL-E Pro series 445nm Blue laser takes 2X16340 or RCR123A(3.6V) by default. With extension, it can also run on two 26650/18650 lithium batts, one of which needs to be in button top, so as to keep two batts in good contact.

There is one other thing, if your paper is white a lot of energy is being reflected and not absorbed. Try black paper, or color a spot on the paper black and try again.

Shadowbass has the Equality series, not a PL-E Pro, although the he definitely needs two cells. :)

Thanks for all the replies. I went out and bought 2 rcr123 batts at radioshack. Needles to say it then went on a burning spree from shoes to white paper. All seems to be well but when i went to use it again a couple minutes ago i noticed a big lack in power. Also the dot is not as bright and has a long straight line that goes across the room and through it... Batts are fully charged and im lost now.

the long straight line is due to 445 being multi mode and not single mode, there are tho 450 diodes that produce much better beam and dot. And also a 2w laser is gonna drain the batteries very quick too its best to have spares that you recharge so u have fresh when the others runs out. Its a shame the laser you have you cant focus, i think having a that much power without be able to adjust the focus and dot is a shame thats why i prefer the laserbtb hosts both their hl and bigger pl hosts are all focusable with nice safety features to, and their prices are hard to beat.

I've been looking at the Jetlasers site for the 445nm Equality series lasers, and it is definitely stated that these are a "fixed focus laser", but, in one of the many videos listed beneath the description, is a video called "Adjust focus in Equality 1W blue laser at 445nm".
In this video it shows the focusing of an Equality laser, so it may be possible that Shadowbass has an adjustable model, even though it is a 2W unit. :)

After a long night of messing around ive learned the laser is adjustable and it was the batteries. I swapped the 2 16340s out for a fresh charged 18650 and and worked like crazy. Insane power and burning capabilities. It can now burn wood. I also figured out it focuses by twisting the crown. Its odd becasue the laser i purchased did say "fixed focus" online. I guess it is a pleasent surprise. :san:

Glad to see you have an adjustable focus model. Be aware of the duty cycle when doing all that burning, also watch out for smoke getting on the lens if you're doing any up close burning. :D
BTW - You do mean that you switched the 18650 out for the two 16340's right?

No opposite. I originally had an 18650 that had it working poorly. I swapped to fresh out of package 16340s and they worked better. Then after a night of charging for some strange reason the 16340s were not working strong at all. I put a fresh charged 18650 in because it was the only other battery i had and it had been working amazingly since.. Normally i use the laser for about 15-20 minutes then charge for a couple of hours. Ile try out the 16340s again though as thats what is recommended for it
