.093 is huge!

I use .022 rosin core silver bearing solder. Works like a champ

They were shiny b4. I have used 5 phr-803t diodes on this one driver ;D

Enough said

Peace,
dave
Thats over ONE WATT of stress for the driver which is NOT built for that. ;D Do you know how to solder?

Yes i know how to solder.
Its just thats the result of using 5 diodes.
and apparently my solder is too thick.

Actually at 125mA, per diode, that's 625mA at ~5v for over 3 watts!
i can tell you right now why your diode broke off the pins.

you are not soldering correctly.

you need to tin your tip of the solder before EVERY joint is soldered. and you need to use flux. and probably some better solder. what kind are you using?
i do solder correctly. the driver broke. the little contacts like just fell off so i had to improvise to save 16$
i use flux also. i use 40/60 alloy rosin core solder .093 Diameter.

Wes... from the 2nd picture... it looks like you are using Acid core solder (I seems to look like it by the
flux residue.. I may be wrong)... do you have a part number on the spool of solder you are using??.
And Like billg519 said... you should be using smaller diameter Rosin Core Solder... .093 is way too
big for such a small PCB. You get better control of your solder joints with a lot less heat damage
with small dia. solder. We use .031 to .020 dia Rosin Multicore in the shop for hand soldered surface mount
parts.

That second picture on ur first post is the ugliest thing I have seen in a long time. If you consider that to be "knowing how to solder", then I'm afraid you are mistaken. You need to get more precise with your soldering and only use tiny amounts, you used about 20 times too much on that driver. only need a tiny dot.

I'd suggest you start over from scratch.

good luck,
Kendall

I did that on purpose guys !!
the little sodler pads came off,and i had to make a big blob of solder connecting to the little resistor.
thats the only way i was able to have this driver still running. this driver has seen better days ... ::)
