Take this: http://www.rei.com/product/720259

Replace Red LED with Red laser diode, Green LED with Green laser diode, and Blue LED with Blue laser diode. All running on a single AA. I'm assuming it would be impossible. If not, please let me know because I would definetly pay someone to make one for me.

EDIT: after reading user review of the light, I guess it's just one LED, with different filters. But still, my dream laser would be one that has an led, red, green, and blue laser all in one.

You could do it in theory! I think you could pull of a harvested green module, DIY red in Aizix and Blu-Ray in Aixiz. As for switching between them maybe have the battery power "hooked up" to all three but use either multiple toggles or a three way switch to be able to swap between them and just house them in one large unit! Bet you could sell it for TONS on eBay too if you ever dared to let go of it.

they sell led flashlights with multiple modes (ie constant on, flashing etc) That would take care of the switch. no idea how much room it would take for LED/green/red/blu-ray AIO. I don't know anything about the actual mechanics of lasers.

But seriously, if people could help me come up with a design, I would probably pay someone to make it for me. How much do you think something like that would cost?

1 AA isn't enough. you would need at least 2 or a CR123 battery. you can build a circuit that raises the voltage and lowers amps but thats more room in the light that would be eaten up and if you wanna cram 3 LD's in there you are going to be cramped for space as is.

but damn if that itn's a beautiful idea.

I don't really care about it being in that housing, thats just what gave me the idea...but in all seriousness, how big would a unit have to be to accomplish that, and how much money would it cost me to have someone build it?

nice idea!
substitute three things:
-no AA, but CR2
-no blue, but violet
-different housing
..and were in the game!

i have several "elly" lamps, doable!

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.1120 7.19$

green laser beginning at 20$:

two housings for the violet and red diode 4.62$:
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.10091
ask others opinions about which casing is decent there, i dont know! i only use original aizix ones, cheap too ;-)

then one red and one violet diode, others will help you with that here, less than 50$ both together

three pots, replaceable with resistors after measuring, to save space

how to:
bore open the flashlighthost about 1mm, and the cr2 will fit. with the original driver, you will get enough voltage out of it for the violet diode. with only a single cr2, you have enough space for "electronics", which can be three resistors or pots only, if you want.
the head of that host is quite wide, you can fit three small modules in it. at least the small 8x12mm modules i have. with one of them a slightly larger green one, it should fit as well.

you can wire the green one directly to the battery, would be more save and more effective.
you will need some idea how to switch between them, and propably will only be able to use one of them. all three, if you limit the red one, and the green isnt too strong neither. 100mA for the red would be bright, and a 10mw green would be very visible too. then all three should be possible at the same time without draining the cr2 too hard. how cool would that be? :)

three holes into the front of the torch, and presto!

you can guess from my long post and links that i want to see this done! ;-)

more details? as i mentioned, i "worked" with that flashlight already, ask me!
i dont expect to find a smaller host, wouldnt even bother, it is as *perfect* as it can be for that plan!

dealextreme: hongkong, free shipping, amazing prizes, average/low/sufficient quality, two weeks shippingtime, the other one, same same but different is kaidomain.com.

so.. do it! :)

I get any reasonably powerful source with some similar beam specs you're talking a 473nm DPSS, 532nm DPSS and a 660nm diode if <200mW, or 671nm DPSS if otherwise. You'd also need the optics/dichro setup to combine them.

No, its not impossible.

The size would be huge - the batteries alone would probably be the size of the original flashlight. The labor involved would be insane if only made in small quantities. The cost of getting anything that doesn't look like a red, green, and blu-ray pointer electrical taped together would be astronomical. We're talking minimum 4 figures.

Someday.... someday we will see them all as direct-injected diodes - this task will be an easy and relatively cheap feat. Someday is, unfortunately, years from today.

i think he wants RGB just all in one case, not combined into one beam

exactly, plus an led. I don't want to be able to use them all at one time. kind of like the AIO printer of lasers. Would that be possible? they wouldn't need to powered at the same time or anything. and if possible, could I run it off 1/2 CR123 batteries. I got some and a charger for the 90mW Ultrafire from dealextreme. I ordered the laser a month and a half ago and they still haven't even gotten it from their supplier. that where I got the idea of wanting a DIY instead, and then the idea hey, if I'm getting a DIY, why not get it exactly how I want.

EDIT: would it be possible to fit a red/green/blu-ray/led into this housing:

http://www.newexcite.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=3&products_id=6

again, I would like it to run on one or two rechargeable CR123 batteries. I don't need the different diodes to be able to be on at the same time. Accomplishing that would be, if possible, very complicated. Instead, I would just like it to be multi mode (ie click once to turn on led, again switch from led to red again to green, then to blu-ray then off) If it would be possible to put something like that together, if someone can give me a price I'll let you know if I could pay you to make it for me. I would really like to spend the time and do it myself, but I'm way to busy with work and mid-terms and stuff.

So you wouldn't need a combined white beam? Again though, you will not get the blue component for any low price. If you don't mind a very weak violet beam to sub for the blue, it may be possible.

you know what. when I have some time and money I may just throw a green module, bluray and red diodes in a box and sell it on ebay. :p assembled and working i mean, not literally just diodes in a box. :p

no, i'm not going for a white beam, just a white led so it can be used as a flashlight. and yea I meant violet, not blue I said blue because thats what color led that one flashlight had, but i meant violet. I'd like them all in an ultrafire housing running off one or more cr123's and then the one switch in the back cycling between them, so if it's clicked once it turns on the led, again it switches from led to red laser, then switches from red laser to green laser, and then from green laser to violet laser, then off.

Would it be better, and would it be aloud for me to post in the buy sell, trade section asking if anyone could build this for me? I don't want to break any spanning rules or anything.
