Mounting laser onto a camera lens

Why?
That's movie nonsense. Why would you alert your target to your presence with a laser dot? The scope is more accurate anyway. Similarly, your viewfinder will tell you more than a laser dot ever could.
because my camera is connected to a location far away and its impractical to walk back there everytime to check if my camera is looking at the right spot. additionally, its a line scan camera so the image is not too user friendly. ideally, the camera can be positioned using solely the laser pointer right at the middle of the area of interest and then turned on.

Any dollar store <5mW red Laser could be used..
You just need to find a way of mounting it...

i'm looking for something that has packaging meeting specs so that when we mount it, it's not tilted by 0.1degree causing the laser to be off the line. the distance is 32" so an error of 1deg in the mounting would cause it to be off by nearly 2mm.
anything that's more reliable or built for being mounted on a camera?

Does the camera have a flash shoe and do you have any DYI capabilities?

There is no Camera Laser Mount that I have seen or am
aware of...
It seems to be is an easy thing to center the Laser's Beam
dot in the center of the field of view by looking in the camera's
viewfinder.... IMO

thanks for the answers. this is an industrial camera. it is connected to a computer 20m away. the camera is mounted inside an enclosure and we could change the lens. that's one place we can play with.
the issue is that it is a line scan camera so images that we end up seeing are not really meant for streaming and understanding. i'm currently looking into calibration pattern to make the job easier. thats as far as i went.

If the camera has a flash shoe, buy an old one from a flea market (or some such) and replace the flash portion with a laser pointer. As you know what distance you want to focus on, you can "calibrate" the pointer with the center of your picture field in the "lab" at your target distance. Then when setting up, see the laser, that is where it is aimed.
