Default Morality question - Free batteries ???

Morality question, You order a set of the top of the line batteries for your laser BUT the seller mislabeled the package with the wrong zip code so on the day the package is to be delivered USPS tracking says "package is undeiverable returning to sender" So seller refunds the money without asking what you would like to do BUT after two days the postal service figures out the mistake made by the seller and the postal service gets the batteries delivered despite the mistake made by the seller !

Do you ?

A - Send the seller back the money for the batteries ?

B - Send the batteries back that you didn't pay for ?

C - Keep the batteries and thank the lucky stars because you just got free batteries ?

I'd just contact the seller and tell them what happened, besides if they're that merciful on the refund then they deserve the good deed on your end.

I don't see why the seller should have to pay for the postal service's mistake, especially when you benefit from the seller's loss.

In a civilized society, we PAY for goods and services rendered. Anything else is theft... Theft of a small amount, that I wouldn't necessarily call you a monster over, but theft nonetheless.

Of course, the fact that you made a thread in the first place asking whether you should pay for something you bought... speaks volumes about your morality in the first place.

Seriously, the BEST thing to do given morality is involved would be to message the seller and ask what they would like to do.

You payed for goods, package was misdirected in postage at which point the seller refunded the money.
The package later arrived (seller doesn't have it and is out the goods).
Not asking them what they would want to do is as objectionable as going into a store and stealing because "you probably won't be caught".

It is pathetic when morals are in question over ~$10 worth of batteries.
I would hate to see what would happen if this situation came up with for instance a $300-$500 laser.

The seller mislabeled the package, The postal service figured out the mistake and got the package delivered despite the mistake made by the seller.

I just want everyone to understand the question because I don't think everyone does, I reworded the OP question to try to be more clear.....

Just do the right thing, it isn't difficult to figure out. If you don't know, ask the seller.

Sincerely investigate any of these three short quotes as new concepts and you've taken your first step into a larger world:

"I regard consciousness as fundamental. I regard matter as derivative from consciousness..." - Max Planck. "Everything we call real is made of things that cannot be regarded as real" - Neils Bohr. "What we call physical things and events do not exist independently of subjective experience..." - Deepak Chopra.

Each of these three rabbit holes go deep, ending up in the same place.

Useless troll fighting.

D - Ask the seller what they would like to do as they are still out the batteries that you still have.
Pretty sure everyone read it EXACTLY as it is.
Typo's are pretty easy as evidenced by "seller mislables" in the updated OP.

The poll is 100% for option A. That kind of says that it is obvious what you should do within moral reason.

Really? Why did you need to ask it then?

The chances are the seller will let you off anyway, but you should at least offer the payment.

Completely agree with Oliver (and others mentioning the same). Just write the seller, explain them the situation and offer payment for goods. This is how you would like to be treated in the place of seller, wouldn't you? So treat the seller in the same way.

And as Oliver mentioned - if seller will see your honest behaviour they might give the batts to you as a gift or with discount to compensate late arrival and ensure returning customer in the future, this is very valuable in business.

And as Oliver mentioned - if seller will see your honest behaviour they might give the batts to you as a gift or with discount to compensate late arrival and ensure returning customer in the future, this is very valuable in business.
I agree with you and I'm willing to bet most sellers would gift the batteries !
