I have recently performed a "transplant" with my 800mW 520nm module. I moved it from this host...

To this one:

The reason I transferred hosts was basically for extra duty time, the new host is thicker than the previous one. I ended up using the old host to make the 250mW 650nm bench module portable. Here are some beam shots at a local forest area, notice the snow:

Very nice! What precautions do you take around snow? I would think a reflected beam can't be good for the eyes, but at the same time, wearing glasses would mean you'd miss seeing the beam.

Usually to get shots like this with the beam going straight into the snow near me, I'll put my goggles on and then position the camera so it blocks the reflected dot, take my goggles off, and I can see the beam and dot through the camera screen. Somtimes I'll use my hand to block the dot, but rarely do I need to.

It is bright, however oddly enough on camera it looks like the dot spreads through the snow quite well, one of the reasons I like taking these kinds of shots.

I really liked that original host but understand why you did the transplant. Glad it all woke out.

Thanks. The original host was also getting pretty scratched up, and the acrylic cracked a little bit. Would rather have that nice 800mW of 520nm in a nice new, shiny host :D With added duty cycle time!

a beam shot of the acrylic with red please?

I can try and get a shot of the laser on, but you won't be able to see the beam - there will be no fog. :/

I just ended up putting a 250mW red in there, nothing special. It's all scratched up and the acrylic is cracked a bit so it's kinda dying on me anyway.
