Thanks for the tip. After taking apart this NCstar, which is one of the more reputable of the knock offs - I am starting to wonder if any of these cheap imitations are even capable of holding zero on anything but a very light caliber.

Were you able to adjust the power on this NCstar laser?
I had mine apart today, adjusted it and it seemed to be a little stronger but I personally dont know how to tell.

The Aimshot GREEN Lasers came in a case that is WATERPROOF to 66 feet to meet MilSpec. The module inside is totally accessable. But the module is totally sealed up. You can't access any part of the driver board, diode or anything at all. I have a 20mW from back when you could buy them. But when I use a Beamshot Green 2000 it was a much superior aiming device. The Aimshot has a crappy aiming system. There really is no purpose having a Green unit more than 5mW. Green in a 5mW aiming device can be seen VERY CLEARLY FOR 1 PLUS MILES. IF you need a pointer for a weapon like an AR15 or AK they certainly don't shoot that far. Anyway it gives away your position easily. That is why the Military uses IR and low power Red lasers.
I see. I have friends overseas, maybe I could work something out with them.

I really think that modifying that 5mw AIMSHOT is the best bet at this point. The laser came in three models, 5mw, 12mw, and 20mw. All three look exactly the same. It is a very nice piece of hardware (Being mounted on a weapon means a laser has to be much more durable than just a standard pointer.).

I'm willing to bet that it's the same diode with a variable resistor in all three different models. Can anyone here tell me if that would be common? Would they really go extra lengths to use three different diodes for lasers that are so similar in strength? That seems counter intuitive.

Maybe they started with a diode that could safely output 30 or so mw, then just turned it down to spec for each of the models they sold. That might also help explain the $200 price point for the 5mw. Although like I said, it must be able to stand up to repetitive recoil from firing, various impacts, and weather so it is expected to cost more than just a standard pointer.

;D

Here is the picture of the lens in the ad

It says when you put the one to the left on, it reduces power to 5 MW.

That is the LASER sight from AIXIS. What a piece of POO. Those things are 100% JUNK. DON'T BUY ONE. The so called power reduction cap(ATTENUATION) is nothing but a piece of plastic glued on the other side. They say they sell to police and military. BULL CRAP. The unit if it get wet will short out. Its not sealed from the elements. IT IS NOT MIL-SPEC.
Nothing but a marketing gimick.

Here is one advertised as 25mw. Looks like they are attempting to dodge the FDA regs by selling it as a part to be added to a complete assembly etc etc and whatnot. Sounds like shaky legal ground at best to me.

It says that it includes a cap which limits power to 5mw... it is blue green in color, it shows it in the ebay auction.I'm no expert but that looks a lot like an IR filter. Someone please look at the photo to confirm.

That means it could be a ripoff. maybe it is 25mW WITH IR, which would be totally useless I guess. It says it's made here in the states, idk. Can anyone tell me if that is an IR filter? Is this piece legit?

Sorry to have to post it like that, I need 10 posts to insert links

This is nothing but a piece of crap from AIXIS in Texas. THe lasers are all junk. They say they sell to the military. Hell this thing can't pass mil-spec. It's not even water resistant. ONe cap has a piece of plastic glued on the inside. It does nothing except fall off ! ! The other cap has no lens at all. This allows dirt, water, and dust to enter the inside of the unit. Do you want a LASER in combat that ca't even take the rain. The adjustment is just 2 hex screws and a piece of rubber on the other side. This thing is so cheap it doesn't even have springs.
