While going through some old diodes I ran across a red 660nm "chip" (none canned) diode I had forgotten about. Apparently I was dissatisfied with it some time ago and mangled the housing pretty bad. For some reason I just decided to take a close look at the semiconductor with my eye loupe and to my surprise I noticed a very small 2D bar code. You can barely make it out in the area I have circled in the pics.

As you can see its only about 0.2mm square! Here is a crappy video also, you can make it out at around the 25-30sec mark. Gives a little better size reference as well.

Sorry if its difficult to make out, shooting video that close by hand isn't easy.

Wondering if anyone else here has ever seen this before:thinking: I haven't seen it mentioned.

Never heard of a code there.
Someone was successful at decoding the micro QR codes on the back of diode cans awhile ago. I don't know if he ever determined what the numbers signified tho.

Looks like you got quite mad at that lil diode...

Yeah, I'm pretty sure this was from a lightscribe burner I bought a couple years ago or so when they were around $75. when I got home and began the harvest I wasn't too happy to find that the diode wasn't in a standard TO-18 (5.6mm) can.:scowl:
