I'm growing bored with handhelds. To me, the appeal with handhelds is coming down to aesthetic of the host as much as the beam. I love my massive, polished wands.

Video after video of some kid burning stuff...yawn

3W of a single wavelength....yeah, done that.

I think it's time I moved into gas lasers. I don't think I am going to be happy until I have something multi-line...like 100mW or more of it.

In the mean time, I'll try to not be too big of a cynical a$$hole.

Enjoy your weekend, folks!

Ever thought of working on a handheld WHITE laser?

I've thought about it. But, I haven't seen an RGB white handheld that I felt strongly about.

What I do feel strongly about is long tubes of glass, plasma streams, and splitting beams into multiple wavelengths.

Thanks, Dave. I've been watching. I really want your plug-n-play multi-line, but I have to sell some lasers first, and have a no-gas-laser policy in effect until we move into a house. The g/f is at her limits with my handhelds so far.

I need a lab-ooor-atory....

Just stay well away from laser projectors - if you weren't broke to begin with, you will be after touching laser projectors, I found out the hard way :D

If handhelds could only hold your attention for 4 months, how long do you think you'll really be interested in gas before your "bored" and move onto something new? Seems like you wasted a lot of time and money to now basically treating this hobby with disdain.

Seems like a pretty bad attitude to take seeing as this forum is all about handhelds really.

These are the thoughts I had when I saw this thread. None of this is meant to be taken as an insult.

It's just about growth
LPF is an "entry point" for many people in lasers

Some people stay with handhelds
Some move on to gas
Some move on to projectors
Some move into industry
Some retain multiple focuses

Allow for the exploration and experimentation
If we all had to stick to our first loves, most of us would be very unhappy

Peace,
dave

Eradicator, you're confusing the length of my membership with my experience in handheld lasers.

What I am expressing is not disdain (and I thought I was cynical), it's a need for more interesting aspects of the hobby.

You may think I have a bad attitude, but I cannot help the way I feel, or how you feel about things. I'm not responsible for your interpretation of my perspective.
I thought this was the place to come to discuss perspectives on the hobby.

well to be frank, I kinda can see where SBA is coming from.
Handheld lasers are cool and all , but in the end they are mostly for show.

There are many aspects to the laser family , lots of choices .
No need to get caught up on a single member and disses the other. They are a family after all :D

I normally change hobby's a lot but and i hope this one sticks. This is an expensive hobby and i don't want to waste my money on something i will get bored of in a few months.
