or.. you could just get a fly swatter or bug zapper-- some of you guys must have too much time on your hands or are hitting that dro too much

NOOOO! pest distruction MUST involve massive technoillogical overkill.
death is a bad thing so at least we can make it fun.
i suggest two 6ft freestanding tesla coils with co2 lasers pumping ion trails from the capacitance hats to the target. one positive and one negative phase. that should get the pesky mozzies, hornets, confused buzzards and small aircraft out of your living space.
some alpha radiation should kill some static from the air and lose speed from the smaller critters.

a hippy told me once that you should burn some herbs and the flies stay away. i said 'maybe you could have a bath and the flies will stay away'

so uprate the co2 lasers to keep hippys away from your home and prevent as well as cure.

I remember reading in my popular science mag about lasers used to clean your windshield (bugs) on your car. That was years ago. I wish tech would catch up before I'm to old to hear about it :p

I strongly represent your remarks sir!!
and its hippie NOT Hippy
ANd there were many I knew that bathed more often then most non-hippies.
I was walking once wearing just one shoe-- a guy asked 'Hey Hippie.. did you lose a shoe?' I said 'NO-- I found one!!!'

BTW
w/o the hippies we would still be in viet nam..

not at all my friend! what did the damage globally is when that generation gave up and went home.

'with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high- water mark—that place where the wave finally broke and rolled back'

now the rot has set in so deep theres no room to excise this cancer. i protest by refusing to use caps unless really necessary, and avoiding cokacola . its not working out that succesful so far as a world changer.

If you where using IE10, then your spelling and sentence structure, would be corrected automatically.

mmm im using iceweasel on debian linux. so i can correctly spell aluminium, axe, colour, flavour, and velour. thats a trade off i like.

explorer runs on windows, and windows lets mosquitos in the room, so the thread runs full circle. my truck runs on natural gas and methanol, mice ran around on the ground. this thread is getting run into the ground. like a ship so sad for a sailor.

i enjoy the structure my sentences make, except that 60 days in the pen, other than that its an expression of my liberty.

I was just messing with you :p My in house servers use CentOS and work stations use Fedora Core... :)

I have slept more than 60 days, in-the-pen...

you dirty trickster! fools day was 3 days ago!

now to get back on the track of this thread and join it flawlessly with the flower power ethos... mozzies get attracted by uv light, so to avoid killing them completely, just get a 5mW uv laser and beam expander brought to a focal point 5m outside your openwindows (mhmph) and the little buggers should piss off outside to that bright and safe apex.

As for hornets .. sometimes they swoop into my room in the middle of night ! I just sit at the computer, killing zombies or something .. and boom, in a moment 5cm hornet is sitting on the screen.
I don't have the nerve to catch THAT alive ! And electric swatter just makes them laugh. I bought freezing insecticide in spray can after my last 'encounter' .. but haven't had the opportunity to test it yet. Not that I miss it ..

pick up a can of circuit chiller.

Will flash freeze the offending hornet and not leave any residue on your electronics.

Re: the lowest power laser can kill the Mosquito

Hi All,

My first post here, nice forum.
I am a laser fan and am rebuilding a 40W CO2 laser engraver.
I hope to find an affordable way to measure 0.1 to 100W laser beam one day, I liked the Ophir laser detector display on one of the other threads.
The laser mosquito killer has been done but is still not a consumer item.

Mosquito laser - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I've always dreamt of a system combining a laser, camera and computer which would detect mosquitoes and shoot them down if if by doing so I'd didn't endanger anything else.
And with the rapid advances in technology it may eventually be possible. You could even use more than 1 laser for increased safety (like 5mW hitting you in the eye for a microsecond isn't that bad but hundreds of those beams hitting the mosquito at the exact same time).

Regards

Kalle

welcome Kalle- please enjoy the forums.
also can you go back to your personal profile and add S.Africa to it- that way others will know every time you post' where you live & that has a lot of bearing on help we give you.

may I also suggest that you go to the top and click 'Welcome' read how others made their first post and make one there- we enjoy knowing your first name- what you goals are with lasers even about your other hobbies- your job- and if you want a cake we need to know your date of birth!!

looks like you have a nice cutter with that CO2--

how are the laws there about owning lasers.?

we must have other members there but off hand I cant remember any- so if you add that to your profile another member may send you a greeting from S.Africa.

good find on that link-- i will give you a +3 for finding and sharing--

GREETZ and Cheerz m8.

Re: the lowest power laser can kill the Mosquito

Hi hak,

Thanks for the welcome and the +3, btw what is a +3?

I read about the mosquito fence a couple of years ago, was kind of surprised that Wikipedia had a nice page on it when I searched yesterday.

Have added in a bit of details in my profile, found the welcome topic, will add more there.

SA laws are probably reasonably sane, public collimated light shows require permits, retail products in higher class must have safety interlocks, a crime to shine at aircraft (enforced), limits on sale of hand-held laser pointers above some power I think. Ownership not regulated for non ionising radiation (laser or x-rays though they are happy if you register experimental x-ray equipment with the department of radiation I think it was). Commercial or public use requires training and certification.

Killing animals or bugs might see a bit of resistance though likely not regulated beyond humane treatment for required pest control. SPCA might have something to say about pointing at higher life forms.

"SPCA might have something to say about pointing at higher life forms."

I would never point a high power laser at an animal, unless it was trying to kill me... But, I could argue that the SPCA kills animals every day.
