Well 532nm green definitely has the lowest divergence. Red has got to be the worst out of any color.

This is incorrect. C-mounts and the 635/638nm red multimode diodes are some of the worst. Single-mode reds have very good divergence.

My 660nm 300mw single mode does seem to have good divergence, with a 3 element glass lens, it appears to get worse with my g2 lens.

The LPC 826 and 836 may not actually be the best, but are incredible, esp with a 3 element lens.

does that exclude DPSS lasers? My 100mW 520nm with a 3 element lens has pretty good divergence. I can still see a small dot on clouds if the air is clear.

DPSS is ok i guess, i was meaning non DPSS in the post but if DPSS has a signifigant divergence advantage it might be worth me looking into it as well.

Look for bigger lenses, rather than a fancy laser diode.

I can see a dot on low clouds with my 532nm, 520nm (acrylic), 650nm (acrylic), and my 445nm (3-element). I'm sure I could see the dot on the clouds with my 405nm too, but I'm not a mantis shrimp.
Seriously though, get the right 532nm pointer, and the perfect focus, and you'll be seeing a tiny dot for daaaaayyys, and it's awesome.

I am aware that a beam expander would be very very good for divergence however there appears to be no easy(read cheap) way to connect one to an aixiz module and I'm not to the point yet that I'm willing to spend hundreds or thalsends on custom hosts and optics.

The osram pl450 single mode also, along with any common 405nm diodes. Although it does seem, to me anyway, that DPSS still beats diodes in beam specs.

That is a nice diode. It was a little strange seeing a nice tight blue beam that ends in an actual dot... since prior to was all 1W+ multimode. It's also nice not having to worry about instantly charring/burning anything you point at...

DPSS every day of the week. Any singlemode diode can be great though. Just fix the lens to the best spot.
