Haha, that makes me angry and laugh at the same time!

They're branding laser users as terrorists! Now that's really low!

Murudai got a mention too. Spineless worm. ;D

Holy crap. I got mentioned on a fricken news article...

What an insult, I've just made this comment:

"I'm the same Murudai who made those comments on LC.

I resent being labeled as a 'terrorist' or a 'trouble maker'. I am an adult and an avid laser enthusiast for many years. These new laws are restricting my hobby, and the hobbies of other Australians.

Making the assumption that ALL laser enthusiasts ONLY buy them to make trouble is an appalling thing to say. That's like saying all people in America who buy guns get them to shoot people and become mass murderers. It's absurd.

As far as I am aware the possession (not import) on these lasers in not illegal yet, but should they ever be I will be one of the first to contact the police and get a permit."

Damnit. I'm 14. (15 in two days! =D) No way am I getting any such permit.

Here's my comment that I made.

"People don't realise that lasers can be, and are used responsibly by enthusiasts. You think everyone buys cars to top the speed limit and knock over pedestrians? It does happen! This article has some very serious implications towards your average laser enthusiast who perhaps simply wants to create a laser show at a club, observe fluorescence with near-UV laser light or use a green laser for star pointing or astronomy. I know this Murudai mentioned in the article and he's no terrorist or a coward by any means and he has no intentions on bringing an aircraft down.

Legislation forbidding use and possession of lasers is pointless anyway. If our law enforcement system is so useless they cannot catch all the offenders, what is the point? The offenders will still have lasers. They will still use lasers. What about a buyback scheme like for the gun ban we had back in the 90's? Nobody's going to walk into a police station and hand over a laser they spent hundreds or thousands of their hard-earned dollars on."

Yeah, it's long.

That was one of the more biased articles I have ever read. The author already had his mind made up and wrote based on ignorance. The police do not seem to be much more enlightened.

Now don't get me wrong. You pop a cop with a pointer and you deserve the beat down you get. In fact I think if the cops could butt stroke an idiot upside their head with their rifles, it might knock a little sense into the perpetrators. Sometimes frontier justice is the best justice. There's a lot of idiots out there that would try it. In fact, the article mentions two attacks on aircraft in recent weeks. The idiots keep doing it even though the act is illegal and knowing full well they are the kind of people who created this situation.

That sure is an effective laser ban. People are continuing to shining them at planes and law enforcement is still too useless to catch them.
Who would have ever imagined this ban failing so badly ::)

Next they're gonna see where I talking about selling lasers and start trashing for that.

Admittedly, that's far more suss. But it's not like I'll be selling the lasers to 'terrorists' or anything, I'll only sell them to other verified enthusiasts.

And the only reason I'm doing this is because the ban is stupid in the first place and I don't want other Australians to miss out.

And as far as I can tell selling these second hand lasers once off isn't illegal. I'm not making a business out of it, and laser possession isn't illegal yet. Otherwise all of eBay is illegal.

Are they grandfathering people who already own lasers? If not it doesn't matter what your intentions are. If you get caught it's your rear. As sensitive as the government and police are over this issue, if they catch you with a bunch of pointers with intent to distribute who knows what they will charge you with.

Since I've already made all my orders, the lasers are still going to arrive to me. Too late now.

But as for selling them... well... Just possessing all the lasers I've ordered is not illegal, and importing at this time is not illegal, so I'm clear for the moment. Phew.

Only the 'selling' part is illegal, and I'll have to think about that one much more carefully.

I like how they are doing everything possible to demonize laserists. The "laser terrorists" are always using their deadly lasers to disrupt the search for an old lady or to divert a shipment of medicine for sick kids ;D

They have a picture of a freaking New-Wish labeled as an "Elite 150"....the picture is purposely fuzzy, because the author obviously doesn't know lasers, and figured he could steal DX's picture, but not WL's ! Too funny. God Bless America. Closed minded journalism like that would be smacked down FAST with dozens of lawsuits and be buried under so much red tape that it would be years before it was reported on again - and damned sure not by THAT guy.

Australia is getting too serious for my liking.

My little scheme to buy lasers and sell them, I'm bailing on it. Getting as many refunds and cancellations as I can and cutting my losses. All this talk about being a legitimate user is hypocritical when you consider my actions.

I'd rather stay on the law with this one, rather than ducking under it. I can't afford to get busted.

You shouldn't post about canceling your plan on LC. If they are reading it they will think their bs article is actually accomplishing something. Btw are you still getting the 2 RPL's? It would suck if they are both already shipped and it's too late for you to get a refund on one of them.

Oh, I don't care if they think their article is accomplishing things. We've been criticizing them since day 1 and it hasn't done anything. I'd rather try and clear my name a bit so the feds don't go looking for me.

Think about it this way. The article is targeted at the lasers Wicked Laser sell. Effectively, giving bad press to Wicked Lasers :)

I'll still get the two RPLs. I'll still sell one of those. I'm just canceling the lasers I bought purely for selling, all the little ones. But mind you, for now I'll hold on to the RPLs and sell it once this blows over a bit.

I wouldn't risk the feds for a bunch of DX lasers, but I WOULD risk the feds for an RPL :)

Sounds like a good plan. You should be able to make a nice profit selling an RPL in a year after they stop freaking out about lasers and move on to the next big thing to be afraid of.
