honestly you are better off getting a larger solar cell around 1FT and even if there is no direct sunlight there is still enough to generate the 400mw at 3.7V
You could use a laser and a telescope to do what you want but just go for a larger solar cell.
i have one that is used to keep car battery's charged.

I'll not do your homework :tired:

Some months ago somebody posted a video with burning balloons over a huge distance. They used an astronomical telescope or binoculars
can you post a link ?
this was probably done with green laser with good divergence . but theoptics are interesting .

Telescope is good, especially mirror type, as the mirror has practically no losses. But it's pretty tricky to prepare the beam for it. You need to have the laser near focus point of the mirror, and at the same time cover full mirror surface. Best method to achieve this for me was using normal Aixiz focusable module, focus to really close, let the beam 'cross' and then expand again .. in other words put the focus point of the module into focus point of the mirror. Still it's hard to make it right. All axes must be perfectly aligned, and it must be very robust.
by mirror type , do you mean reflector telescope ,like the ones used for astronomy ?
those can be bought on ebay for less then laser expanders .

1ft solar cell will unveil the device :shhh:
i will never be able to generate 400mw of power lol . maybe if using 10w laser or more .
lets say i have 10w ir laser .i dont know whats the laser efficiency , lets assume 90% , thats 9w ir "light power" .then there's optics = 8w ir power .
after 100m there will probably be 4w left . solar cell efficiency = 13% , so i'll have approx 400mw of electrical energy in the end
the plan is to charge the battery , not powering it directly .

yes it would work. it wont be easy or cheap.
why not make a small wind turbine? you can make them very small and it will charge all day rain or shine.
Much better ways to generate power.

It still sounds like something illegal to me.....

Jerry

i guess i should have started a thread asking for help popping balloons at 100m , sounds much more legal and "normal" around here .

sorry , unfortunately i dont have the balloon popping fetish yet . maybe i'll get some if i'll continue reading around :tinfoil:

I've never had a balloon popping fetish.... Yes I have popped a
balloon or two at one time.. but I can usually smell something
funny about a new member that needs info on some "Super
Duper Top Secret
" project....
Nine times out of ten... the new member is up to no good....

I'm not sure if you are in that group but you keep dropping
illegal activity clues....

You've been given more than enough information on how to
accomplish what you want to do with the sparse and secretive
info you have provided...

So you don't deny that what you are trying to do is illegal and even go as far as saying you should have come up with a better cover story to fool us. We are not looking to teach people how to do illegal stuff with lasers here that will hurt our hobby.:scowl:

It is like the people that message me about a laser that can burn string a few feet away. You are not going to fool anyone here.:tsk:

ohh come on we have all thought about that arcade game.
If you say you havent then your are a liar.
I went to marvins marvelous mechanical museum and asked the owner if i could try, he said yes but i could not keep it.
He now uses some weird shiny foil like string or he just wrapped foil on the string.
THB there are much worse uses for lasers.

I have actually never even seen one of these machines. The only reason I know about them is the threads that have popped up here.

Now thinking about how to do it and the consequences of so and how it affects the people you would be stealing from Yes. Thinking and planning it out in my head and even giving a moments though that it was reasonable to do NO.

True to the thought of thinking and doing.
Best not to be done, but im the person who has to try but i did it legally.
You sometimes wonder why people want to buy a lasers that can burn.
Will it cut string? maybe will it cut wood? will it pop a balloon? Will it hurt my eyes?
You never think much of it but there are several carnival games people could be cheating at.
People buy them and the sellers hope they put them to good use.
But as i have moved on from pointers i can only find a few good safe uses now.

you guys are funny .
i NEVER asked how to burn stuff .
my use for a laser is mentioned in the thread title .
what type of electrical device is located at the other end is my own business and i never asked anyone of you helping me to design it .
maybe i'm writing a patent for remote powered "X" device and i dont want to share the info with the whole world before checking if its actually working ?

actually , using a power laser for energy transfer sounds much more legal ,and safer , then using it as a toy , as most of you do around here , burning matches / balloons / your neighbors / some kind of candy machine strings / whatever .

Yes, however you can probably tell that there are ALOT of people that come through this forum simply asking "Where can I get a good burning laser!!!". These people usually have no concept of the danger these lasers can cause. There is no reason to promote such things. On the other hand DON'T take it personal. We can only help you so much without having the proper info on what it is you want to create exactly. I don't know about you, but I love the laser hobby and want to protect it. It's already banned/limited in Australia.

well some of us have are more into doing profesional laser shows.
But what you are talking about has alot more risks than our "TOYS"
Powerful ir lasers are not toys. and in your use if a bird flew into the beam it could be hurt.
Lasers for use around the house are alot safer than a invisible laser beam in the open sky.
The risk to animals is great as some can see ir and might be attracted to it and get hurt.
You say its to charge a device that has to be secret yet cannot have a solar panel the size of 1ft.
So you want to use a highly focused light source to charge it.
Also note that unless you get a very good ir laser with active temp cooling and not a fan but a thermal electric cooler you laser wont last very long.
TBH there are other ways of power secret devices. ever thought about using a satellite dish plus (wont mention) to channel to it?

agreed .
i think 90% of people comming here looking for burning laser :) i understand that .we used to see this stuff in movies when we were kids , i think this fascinates people . i also bought 30mw green laser a long long time ago , and i was pretty amazed by the beam at night .
unfortunately lasers are dangerous .
