I know linear diode arrays exist in 808nm dut do they come inother visible wave lengths too like 650nm? Also if one were available in a visible nm wave length how would you collimate the light...these things produce high watts of laser light, could a person just use a simple strong convex lens to get a focal point to burn with one of these arrays mounted at one end of a tube and a adjustable lens at the other for a "simple" burning laser not a beam but an adjustable dot more or less with lots of power?

I believe that there are multi-emitter arrays at visible wavelengths, but I would expect them to be VERY expensive. Most likely that's why they're not seen very often in hobbyist hands.

You wouldn't get much of a "laser" beam out of it. More like the beam of a 5mm LED, and what good is that? with 808, you can at least pump with it.

Fiber-coupling and some decent optics should allow for a fairly decent beam.. but that's a lot of work for a hobbyist.
