Lasers on the radio

On my way to work, I heard something disturbing. In Baltimore there has been a Navy blimp testing aerial mapping equipment. The radio personality on 98 rock mentioned the testing and goes on to say "let's hit it with a laser, we've seen it pop a balloon, wonder what it will do to a blimp" he also said that a laser can be shone from NY to Philadelphia, so it would have no problem hitting the aircraft. Finally he gives a smart-ass disclaimer about shining lasers at aircraft, and follows it up by saying he's still doing it. Of course he was kidding, but a listener is surely going to do it as soon as they see it in the area. Very disappointed to hear. Another potential news story against us.

Great! Now we have dumb s**t radio hosts broadcasting "wonder what it would do to a blimp". Stupid.

But hey, no problem, there were probably only a couple hundred thousand people listening to them.

It would be interestingto see if there is any follow-up or repercussions from that statement. Probably not!

As soon as the blimp enters downtown, I'm sure there will be reports immediately.

How low does it fly? You'd think that a Navy blimp testing mapping equip would fly fairly high.

Not high at all. Same height as you see the good year blimp. Could be easily hit with a 532nm $15 job.

Why would the Navy test map imaging at that level.... I'm not into conspiracy theories... but I'm sure there's one in there :)

Also, the other day I heard on the radio that a guy was stranded at sea on his boat. When he saw a helicopter he flagged it using his laser pointer. The rescue team said had he not used it they may have never found him. I cannot for the life of me find the article though so I didn't post it here. Trust but verify.

It's a neat story but it sends mixed signals, especially to kids and those of lesser intellectual capabilities. Also proves the validity of using these as rescue beacons. :)

That 98 Rock Radio broadcaster should really be sanctioned.

Offering idiotic ideas over the radio about things that are a felony, that most people are ignorant of to begin with is really bad form, poor taste and keeps us all repressed.

I guess one good thing about pointing a laser at a blimp vs. an airliner, is that the blimp isn't going 500mph!

@ Javalin, the article on the stranded man was copied in the "win" section by I.E. on 11/4.

There has been many theories about what the blimp is really doing , but the navy has stuck with the mapping equipment story.

The idiots listening will attempt this just to please a local celebrity. I would really like to call the station and go on
The air to say how he has put the idea into the public eye, and caused a potentially dangerous situation.

I'll bet what they're really testing is new surveillance technology and I'll bet if some poor dumb ass points a laser at it they will have the exact GPS coordinates of the origin of the laser.

Was it this station in Baltimore? 98 Online - Homepage
And witch one of these idiots said it? 98 Online - Jocks

OK I have had a conversation today with this guy "Justin Schlegel" 98 Rock Baltimore Maryland. He seems like a good guy and intelligent, they're a comedy show and it was a joke although he certainly didn't think it through before he said it, he didn't intend to cause any trouble. I sent him a link to this thread and he is impressed with LPF and he is actually interested in lasers. I am not saying what he did was OK, just a mistake and give him a second chance. They are actually having a guy from a laser manufacturer on next week to talk about them, dangers and all, and he's bringing up a bunch for them to test drive. Not sure the exact date and time, but I'll try to post here to let you know, once he tells me, I asked him to tell me at least the day before, hopefully that works out. You can listen live at the link in my earlier post. I know I sound like I am defending someone who acted recklessly, but we all sometime say things without thinking. Hopefully nothing bad happens. One more thing you may find interesting: BCPD has 30+ reports of people shooting at that blimp with guns. Can you believe that?

Why would the Navy test map imaging at that level.... I'm not into conspiracy theories... but I'm sure there's one in there :)

They aren't testing map imaging, and we should also be angry about the blimp being there in the first place, we are already getting drones spying on us now and soon they will be everywhere.

Great job Pi, hopefully the company rep. that's visiting isn't from WickedLaser!
Maybe some good can come of this after all. Keep us posted. :yh:
