Their biggest safety screwup has to be Confederate Rocket, where Savage and Hyneman decided to test a rocket engine by lighting it off inside their own shop. They nearly burned down M5 in the process.

My biggest beef with these guys, though, is that the production still uses volunteers for tedious (LEGO ball) or tedious and dangerous (1,000,000 match heads) grunt work. Given how much money MB rakes in for Discovery, they should at least pay their helpers.

They're all Volunteers?

Maybe they settle with being on TV for a few seconds...
I'd rather get paid.

One thing I noticed when they did the kernel was they wrapped it in aluminum foil - I assume to spread heat evenly. Had they used a darker material, would the IR have absorbed better and popped the kernel faster? Or does non-visible light react differently to surfaces we consider "reflective?"

Dude..safety period. In the hydrogen car episode he put the hose of an unregulated hydrogen tank down the carb. The carb blew back and the hose caught fire. It was a miracle the fire didnt blow the whole tank. And then they both laughed :undecided:.

If the tanks filled up with nothing but hydrogen then i don't think it would be
possible for it to blow up. Do the take out the air before they fill them up?

Not sure, but I know one of the jobs of the regulator is to keep a flame from blowing back into the tank.

He said it him self in that episode.. IIRC he also said to fully flush it out you should take a few very deep breaths and exhale as fast as you can.

There's a lot of stuff you don't see, that's off camera, for all you know after he was done filming he could have been standing on his head! (Wouldn't be unusual for Adam :p )

I agree some of the stuff they do is kind of stupid, but where would the fun in the show be if it wasn't? I mean, if they wanted to eliminate stupid, they'd have to get rid of Adam, and they couldn't do that! :p
