Laser w/o heatsink?

Hey everyone,
I'm just looking into the possibility of making a fast, cheap laser for myself.
So, my first question is this:
Can you get decent power out of a diode with only a module as heatsinking?
In particular, I'm looking at this module http://www.ebay.ca/itm/1845-House-H...ltDomain_0&hash=item2c5ca397bd#ht_3121wt_1037 and this diode http://www.ebay.ca/itm/180711704294...X:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649#ht_3082wt_1270.

Next, I was wondering if there are any hosts and drivers that would fit an Aixiz module or the module shown above.

Thank you!
Alessandro

My best bet would be without a proper heatsink, the diode will be limited to 300mW to 500mW max.
Above that, it wouldn't be able to take the heat buildup.

I think the two would work, but my only concern is that if the module is painted black in the inside too, it might degrade the heat transfer.
Aixiz modules are metal and there're copper ones that LPF'ers machine as well for best heat transfer.
If you plan to driver the diode at 200mA though, it probably is okay. (Please correct me if I'm wrong)

It's not the host nor the driver that holds the module--it's the heatsink. (Unless you don't have one.)
Many members in LPF offer kits that only require you to buy a diode.
It came with everything except the diode, including host, driver, heatsink, lens, focus ring, etc so that you just need to place the diode in the module and you're good to go.
Mohrenberg used to sell C6 kits until he closed his shop. :(

Hope I helped. Happy lasing!

I use those heatsinks in the top link all the time. They work fine for the power ranges ryansoh3 mentioned, especially for reds.

For hosts, most use Aixiz modules, not the larger ones in the first link.
