If you're after volume I'd recommend the standard 445/450nm stuff. Maybe some 405nm and 638nm also.
Out of 100 I'd say a ratio to think about might be
50 445/450nm builds
10 520nm builds
20 405nm builds
10 638nm builds
10 462/465nm blue builds.
Seems like most new members are looking for a entry level 1-2W blue laser these days.
You'd also need to take precautions to 'idiot proof' your lasers and prevent people from putting in the batteries incorrectly or exceeding the duty cycle. Provide a card with each laser with this important information or something like that.
If scifi ends up going belly-up I could definitely see you getting some decent business.
You'd also want to ask a lawyer before getting involved in this. I could see potential legal and liability issues.

Oh, I agree with that lol. When I got started in this hobby a 300mw dpss green laser was considered top notch power. Then there were the DIY 100-200mw reds made from DVD burners and <100mw 405nm builds.What I really don't like is that 1-2W lasers are now considered "entry level". Wish you the best of luck, but strongly advise not to sell complete lasers based out of the US. (As it is illegal, and the FDA as well as other agencies could get involved. If you're wondering, yes this forum is monitored.)
1-2W is definitely, consistently, the most in demand. Could see interest in 520nm, and 636nm. DPSS is not worth touching imho.
Regarding idiot proofing, depending on budget the things I've considered before were custom boards that would shut off the laser if it gets too hot. To prevent people from frying lasers by inserting batteries wrong, a custom driver would also help, but a mechanic approach would be better. Specifically having a lip over the positive contact so the negative contact of a battery could not connect. As a solution to complains about batteries not being button top, I'd just toss in a small magnet, or offer batteries as well, and solder on a button.

i did it to some lasers i installed a thermal protection and reverse protection

Would he be able to sell "nearly complete' lasers which would just require the buyer to solder in a wire or something? It would still take a slight amount of electronic knowledge, but anybody with a soldering iron and a brain would be able to do it.

Sorry I couldn't be a customer today, but I'll be one in the future if you do this.
Personally, I really like there to be nice single mode options. Maybe I'm in the minority, but a good lower power Class 3B single mode always looks very nice in the beam and dot. Good in pen hosts as well.
If you do beefier hosts, more C-mount high power reds and IR would be cool.

I'm no expert on the matter, Moh and Garoq would be the guys to ask I think.
My guess is, if soldering is required, it wouldn't be an issue, since all of the component parts are themselves legal to buy and sell.
I doubt if simply requiring people to say screw in a working module into a host, would be ok though. Maybe you can also sell in pieces, where a customer cannot buy a complete laser in order, and get away with it that way, but again, I doubt it, and I'm definitely not qualified to answer.
