Well allmost have a high power laser....

Hello
im new to the laser world and after lots of research here i just bought a x75 from nova. i would have gone higher power but my wife thinks im crazy to spend that much money on something like a laser. this will be my 1st green laser and my 1st any laser over like 2mw. i also ordered the 70mw Red lab laser from DX just for fun, for $17 and some change i dont care if it even puts out more than 5mw i just thought it would be fun.... the x75 should be here in a few days and the DX lab laser should be here in 1-2 months =P

So what are high powered lasers good for? im getting mine just for fun but some of you guys have gone crazy with the number of lasers you own. is there a practical reason to own that many lasers? is there any other reason other than to pop balloons and burn stuff?

Anyways when my laser gets here ill let you know and post some pics...

o and i know someone has asked this b4 but are lithium batteries ok to put into the X75?

Why we get lasers, well YOU GET TO BURN STUFF WITH LIGHT  AND POINT IT AT THE SKY TO ADMIRE ITS BEAM, what can be cooler than that? ;D
Oh, and you can do this with them too: ;D

Sounds like you indeed did your homework!!!

I wish I had bought a Nova as my first laser!!!

Good for you..!!!

You will be very happy with that Nova..they really are like Jewels!

As far as why to own so many different lasers...well I guess they each have their own individual feel and function.

All of my lasers have their own "Personality"....

Everyone in this hobby starts with their FIRST.....before long...they have a collection!

Especially when you start building your own!

Blu-Rays...DVD Harvest diodes.....ect..ect...

There are also Yellow, Blue, Orange, IR....all really neat lasers to play with!

THere are DPSS lasers (like your X-75) Diode lasers (Reds in 650, 660, 635nM ranges and Blu-rays @ 405nM)

Gas lasers..HeNe, Argon Ion, CO2......and YAgS.....

MMmmmmmm Yagggsssssss.........DRRRROOOLLLLLLLLLLLLL!

There are Lab lasers..and Portables...

It's Science..and a hobby....

It's the Geeky science stuff like electronics..combined with that "Cool" factor of laser light, burning power, and Color as pure as it can be!

Ahhh.......

Hey..Don't worry...

When you first see that green Beam from your X-75..you will understand.......Trust me!

Nothing in the world like that "Jaw Hit The Floor" feeling upon seeing a High Powered Nova for the first time!!!

DId you buy Goggles when you bought your laser??

If not...seriously , You need to buy a pair!!!!!...you are NOT DEALING with a <5mW red pointer here...!!!!
You can do permanent damage to your eyes with that X-75!

Even a stray reflection off of a Window pane can screw up your eyes!

Remember ..you can always buy another laser...but you only get one pair of eyes!

Drop by the safety forum for some really good info!

Good Luck!!!!

Oh..and for what it's worth..
My wife also questioned my "Need" for a high power laser....
Now whenever we go star gazing...we both use a Laser to point out objects to each other!!!

She's a Beliver now!!!

And it's fine to run ENergizer Lithium E2 in your X-75....

They are my personal battery of choice!!!!

Buying from Nova is a good start, they have excellent customer service and even better reviews. All their lasers perform up to spec and many go over spec. So in other words your 65 may be a 80 or so.

as for the liths, they are good for green lasers. But DO NOT put them in any red laser you may have,

As for the collection question, it depends on the person. Some people have mint condition action figures they never open. Some people collect cars and coins....... theres an inumerable amount of things people collect-there isnt necessarily a tangible reason behind it, but people do,.

A friend of mine that I was showing my DIY red to asked "So does everything dark in your garage have little pin holes in it?"

I looked at him straight in the eyes and responded "Yes. Yes there is...."

If you have to ask WHY you would want a high powered laser, you would never understand...

I too have wondered why we spend so much on a dot of light, but its all fun and experimenting i guess. And maybe the fact that when you shine it in the sky, you get a crowd of people watching LOL ;D
