Laser Microphone Detection - Help!

I've done as much research on my own and have come up empty.

I have a client of mine in the United States that to make a long story short, has been tormented and harassed by their neighbors relentlessly for the last 3 years. To the point where they are now stalking their two children, age 4 (girl) and age 6 (boy) . They’ve stolen the parents identity and the children’s, follow the children to school sporting (ballet/soccer) events to vandalize their car (slashing tires/ graffiti ) & follow their kids into public restrooms while on school grounds. Real sleazy behavior.
… and are now listening to them with a laser microphone setup and have been for the last year. Another neighbor mentioned that the “suspect” confided to him boasting of having a laser microphone to obtain information from them to find out where they would be and to listen to their daily conversations to obtain personal information. They recently went to court to get protection orders and "stay-away" orders for their “physical” antics which included them exposing themselves to the children and throwing rocks at them in broad daylight that was ongoing, so now it’s come to this.. This is a SMALL sample of the insane behavior from these people. My client has a spectacular home that is being intruded upon both by video and laser mic’s. My client has had to resort to pointing 8 cameras in their direction for personal protection. They don’t dare open their windows blinds, or speak to each other about anything of a personal nature outside the house. They speak in “code” that they taught their children. Now they just don’t speak. The kids know sign language. Suburban home cul-de-sac at war... It’s a very sad and scary situation.
I've got technical background in anti-countermeasures for listening devices both audio/video, but laser microphones are beyond my traditional expertise. I have scanned for traditional listening devices and there are none.

I used a telescopic sight and discovered they have a window with what looks like a laser microphone setup that they use only during the DAY, exclusively, inside an unused 2nd floor guest room. They close the blinds at night. I believe this to make it harder to detect the laser or infrared emissions from their setup. They also have numerous traditional IR video cameras pointed at their house mounted OUTSIDE.

I've included some picture attachments of their setup. The house is approximately 55 yards away and they seem to be targeting a very large double-pane 10X20' picture windows in the front of their house, that would pick up easily a conversation in his office, kitchen and living room easily, hard wood floors and ceramic tile. Its direct line of site, no obstructions.

What is the best way to detect a laser microphone based on this scenario? I know there are also some countermeasure devices available on the internet, but I'm not sure if they work. Detection would be a great first step, countermeasure would give them peace of mind. Help!

I'm afraid for my clients family's safety and well-being. Any information you could provide would be a blessing.

Well .. I'm not laser surveillance expert .. by IMHO it would not work all that well if their listening device would be behind next window. Also I really see nothing suspicious on the photo. Also if they were using 'near infra red' laser, it would be visible on digital camera photo, especially at night.

I agree with DrSid.

Also... making some exposure and contrast adjustments, it doesn't look all that electronic...

If you have a higher-resolution original photo I can probably pull more detail out.

They only use the device during the day, so no way to check for IR with a digital camera. They open only this windows and the blinds every morning and are always sure to close the blinds and windows before dusk. And only this window. These people quoted verbatim a conversation they had in their house with their attorney the day before they went to court. They're have also been other incidents which it make it clear that they are somehow listening to their conversation from inside their house. The fact that they confided in a neighbor that they had been listening to them with a laser microphone all makes sense.
Does anyone know if an IR Sensor Card would help in this situation? I've seen some available in Wavelength coverage from 200 nm to 1700 nm but don't know if they would be of any use at all.

The IR sensor card would probably be washed out in ambient light.

I'd just take all the windows that face that side of the house, and place small AM radios that can run off of AC, and then tape a small external speaker in contact to the glass, and just tune it to a 24/7 news/music station and leave them running.

That's what the U.S. .gov does in it's foreign embassies and other sensitive buildings.

I've suggested something similar to them. They really would like to catch them in the act though. They've got an upcoming court case to strengthen the terms of their protection order they already have and if they could show how crazy people are to use a laser microphone to spy on them , would be a bonus.
On a side-note, I came out to their house last week with a Valentine Laser/Radar detector that I borrowed from a friend and a portable 12v jumper pack and got a laser hit for about 2 minutes, then like clockwork, the window/blinds closed for the rest of the day. Now everytime I come over, the blinds go down. I left a portable Escort Solo detector with them and they get sporadic hits in the very early morning hours (7AM-8AM), but none later. I don't know if its because of the ambient light or not. If that isn't fishy, I don't know what is.

I have some better pictures taken with an 18 mega pixel camera and a 600mm lens, but the max size for attachments in the forum are 800x600.

I can provide my email, if you'd like to get them to me that way.

I don't think this is a troll. People are nuts sometimes. Personally know someone who's ex was trying to brainwash her children into believing she was evil.

Necro post hard here.. but the solution to your problems is:

Build/buy an IR floodlight (or near IR depending on the type of "laser" used) and aim that sucker at their window.. you will "drown out" the return signal.. the benefit of is any camera aimed at your window will appear to be staring at a floodlight.

For a "counter-surveillance" dude you sure have some tricks to pick up.
