I am looking for a laser that will show up in daylight outdoors.
It doesn't necessarily have to show a dot, but the beam at least needs to be visible to indicate the direction it is pointing in.

Is a 5mw green pointer enough?

Showing the dot is easy - 50-100mW will make for an easily visible dot in daylight.
A visible beam is another matter entirely - you'll need 1W to 1.5W to see that.

1.5W of 532 may still not even be enough :)

If all you need is a direction, use a finger.

Now you realize that anyone looking at the laser's aperture will be able, easily, to tell which direction the beam is travelling. As for being a visible beam in full sunlight you will have to spend lot's of money in the denominations of Benjamins to accomplish the goal. In short have deep pockets.
