Atomicrox, good luck on your build! I love the box. I've been considering one of my own.

Re: Competition #1 - Best Laser under $100

Here is my entry, just made it tonight :) It is a 160mW Single Mode 638nm Laser in a Stainless Steel Aurora Host w/ Gold Plated Copper Heatsink and Aluminum Focus Adapter.

Parts List:
Host/Heatsink/Focus Adapter = 30 Dollars via Cheech226
Diode/Module/Lens = 45 Dollarsm Dollars via DTR (2x for 90)
Driver = 20 Dollars via Cajunlasers (a little less when coupon is taken into account)
Total Cost: 95 Dollars

If you count batteries, it puts me up to $99.60.....cutting it close :D

HERE is the thread for this build for those who wish to see more :)

Re: Competition #1 - Best Laser under $100

Wow, I haven't been following this thread....
Would like to say something though.
I originally posted my Viagra pen just for a laugh (like Scumbags "second humping battery entry") and didn't actually intend for it to be a submission although that's OK at this point. I don't think we should put his and mine together though or his may breed AAA humpers everywhere:)
This is supposed to be FUN!!! Who cares what the entry is as long as there is full disclosure of how it came about. Think it will be WAY more interesting to see so many great builds.
Don't see my offer to supply a prize added yet...
Will offer another seperate prize on top of the original one for yet another place. I'll pay for a set of the overspec pens that I used for my tutorial to be sent right from the seller to your address if they can do it (not sure about whether it would be a problem to some places).
So, that's 2 more sets of prizes up for grabs if Gun agrees to add them.

Maybe any extra prizes offered can be saved for the next competition.. Like what we discussed in the first thread.. You don't want to give away all the donated prizes in the first go then have none left for other competitions..

Generous Pman! Very cool. The grab bag is gettin' bigger :D Get your submissions in!

Oh, sorry Doctor :) This is the first competition. I think we'll be ok on prizes in the future. One thought is prizes for runners up and honorary mention. That way people won't be so disappointed. Just a thought. It may be prudent to not be to hasty, but it would make for a glorious win :D

Indeed, but i was just thinking of having a bank of donated prizes so we can have a competition every 2 weeks or something? Keep it regular?

Oh, gotcha. Well everybody is just kind of offering up what they have and are shipping it to whoever wins so there's no central locale, but everybody with prizes is supposed to PM Gun with the info so he should have a record of who has what. Maybe

Re: Competition #1 - Best Laser under $100

I'm glad to see this thing working out. LB...love the new avatar!

Pman, I took your viagra pen as a great entry possibility, joke or not. Clearly, my frisky 532 module and it's battery-victim was a joke.

Again, that's a very generous offer on the prizes. I think the more the merrier! I think it's just great that so many kind people are trying to make this so fun.

WB, that' a great entry...my heart just sank a bit..

Good luck all!

Thanks SBA, It took me a while to stop procrastinating and finish it :p

Some great builds from all of you, seriously. We have Gun to thank for the great idea and for organizing everything so well. Thanks to Norbyx and everybody who chimed in with great ideas and input. Still waiting for his entry :)
