Those were in 2009 mind you, heatsinking didn't matter as ~200mW of 650nm was your only choice, and hosts were basically non existent unless you ripped apart a working laser. You didn't have many options.

Yep, back then we'd have never known blue or green diodes would become a reality within 5 years.
