Since it's my senior year in High School I'm trying to figure out what to do with my life in the next year. It's harder to find "laser schools" at least in Florida. It would be very helpful if I could find some information on schools offering these programs. It seems that Florida Institute of Technology offers a "Laser Optics and Instrumentation" program. If anyone knows some great schools for these sort of things please let me know!

Sweet I'll have to look into the school!
And yes I got it a few days ago! Thank you, the "1350mah" batteries are working great. I haven't had much time tot est them yet though.

I would love to be able to go somewhere like that!
The thing is I can get tons of scholarships if I at least stay in Florida.
Possibly even a free ride on a 4 year state college! ::)

Rhith, I am very glad to hear that you have set your mind to a course of study. Here in Florida, education is free :) Especially if you have Bright Futures covering you and with the help of college grants and scholarships, you end up getting a degree for damn near nothing. They'll even pay for your books, room and board, and with extra money to buy a car too ;)

My personal suggestion to you is to go to UCF or FSU. I personally went and saw UCF's CREOL (The Center for Research and Education in Optics and Lasers) is HUGE!! It's AMAZING! It's very active and they have a laser show here annually. :D The school is very research oriented and has gotten rebuilt very recently and is now housing some lasers that I'd prefer not discuss ;) ;D

With that, I hope to see you in the area. UCF is a great school with very understanding professors and a very friendly student body. The campus is not as magnificent as FSU, which is nothing to compare to other bigger/better schools either. Although, I personally know many people who went to FSU and can tell you that UCF is a much more pleasant place to be :) (unless you like to party all day and night and fail because the teachers do not care at all!)

Good luck :)

Hmm, sounds very interesting. I'm fairly sure I'll get a nice chunk out of bright futures. (28 ACT)
I'll have to arrange a tour and talk to admissions! What kind of jobs can this program lead to though?
I know there's research and development, but I'm guessing medical and micro technology could be choices.

Very true, yes.

Their fields there expand from lasers and light in all directions and into all fields. They go into optics, holography, laser development, laser testing, laser phenomenon (I know they created several materials by using laser pulses so short that they deform the surface of the incident material!), laser bending... etc etc. There's lots you can do. Right now the big thing happening is the use of light in semiconductors as a communication medium. I'm sure they have some footing in that field, but I suspect it's a very complicated study and not for the faint of heart ;D
