What are your plans for the included driver, what range will it be capable of?

I like the single battery design better, you only really need dual if you are going to be using it for a long time.

Kenom, do you mind me asking how you make your own hosts? Do you send these designs, 3d designs, or other kinds of designs that I am unable to think of to certain companies that make them for you? Are you epic with a lathe?

All of the hosts I have seen come from you are top notch, so I figured I would ask.

EDIT: Single batt. Recharges fully while you sleep and stays alive whenever you should need it. Double batts are just way too much.

Hahaha I ignore this thread for an hour and it blossoms. The driver from what I asked it to be should be capable of up to 5Amps of current at 3v or so. All of this will be accomplished off one 18650. That being said, you can see possibly up to 5 WATTS of IR from a c-mount coming from this host. It will be an unprecedented thing that to this date, no manufacturer is doing. Although why in gods name you'd want to spend $400+ for one single diode is beyond me.

Goggles a must for this baby. Come to think of it, I find a example of how other things that are really really bright are taken seriously but not lasers. Would you weld without a welding mask?

to continue (primarily because I like seeing my self important words on a screen) pullbangdead, I think your idea is an excellent one. I will give it some thought.

The main point of lasers is that they look cool. Goggles make them look less so. Welding is used to complete a task, so goggles can be used without some of the enjoyment going.

I use lasers as a tool... and googles are a must.... it's kind of simple... really...

No goggles = no (or damaged) eyesite...

Sure you can get away with it for a while... but if you keep yanking on the Devil's tail....
eventually he'll turn around and stab you with his pitchfork...  IMHO... ::)

I understand that you use them as a tool, but most of the people on LPf use them for a hobby.

Fabrication time for the double battery enthusiasts. Having two 18650's will substantially increase the size. You know I'm a "smaller is better" guy so deal with it. I just want you to know what you are asking to handle here.

The length will be a minimum of 8 3/4 inch (222mm). This length is assuming a "head" that is the same length as the head on the Groove barrels. IIRC the head on The Beast is going to be larger, so the extra length will need to be added to this length.

Find (or make) a tube that is one inch in diameter and cut it at least 9 inches long. Add some weight to it. That is what you will be carrying and handling.

Peace,
dave

I agree. The beast is going to be big enough with a 35mm head. Add onto that the length of the 2 18650's and it's going to be a true BEAST. 70mm for each battery. Plus you need about 50mm depth for the driver area. taht will be one LOOOOOONG LASER.

If the head is 35mm then the overall laser with two batteries will be over 10 inches long. Unless of course you go side-by-side. Of course then it would be 1 3/4 inch in diameter
