I'm curious as to how long that "Burning Laser" will run on those
2 tiny batteries...

Yeah... if the diode is driven at ~100mA and he's using a booster-driver powered by 3V, the current at the batteries must be somewhere around 200mA (!)

It's a laser lighter.Rog8811 made the first laser lighter.Just because it's a fliptop lighter doesn't mean its any different than a BIC lighter except for it's style, therefore Kipkay baisically copied rog8811.

Yeah... but he is allowed to do that...
It is just not ethical to brag that his is the "World's First"...

We all know that Rog is the master when it comes to new and unique laser builds.

First off, the demonstration of whoever lighting a smoke is just plain stupid. Look how close it is to his eyes.
Kipkay should have at least mentioned Rogs' build being his inspiration and shouldn't have said ''Worlds First''. But you have to hand it to him. That is a pretty sweet looking build. Obviously it won't last very long because of the lack of heatsink.

I checked out the website quoted in his video and they want $60 for the laser module and it doesn't even come with the driver board. What a rip-off. Kipkay should have directed people to this forum to get educated before attepting a build like that.

I feel sorry for any laser noobs that attempt to make this for around $90 in parts, and even if they are successful, that diode is going to burn up in a matter of days or weeks.

hmm I wonder what wavelength the diode is he linked, I mean it sure does seem more blue than most blu ray diode's we've worked with, even for how the camera picks it up..
I wonder if LaserDIY gets them from a blu ray burner or what..
edit: looked around on the website a bit more and it does say 405nm. I wonder why kipkay's camera makes it look more blue than most cameras do.

These are the qualms that I have and that the rest of the forum have. Whilst you have answered some of these qualms I still must point out:

The laser is being pointed at a tragectory that appears to be WAAAAAY too close to someone's eyes

Not only may someone damage their eyes from this, they might seek legal action against you (although I suppose that you added a disclaimer adding not to point it at anyone...) Perhaps if you are interested at getting people into DIY lasers you should sell laser goggles (of a high OD) on your site (if it is your site, Im not sure sorry... If not, please recommend a site for people to buy from...) to ensure people's safety. As they say, someone's eyes are worth a lot more that a pair of $30 goggles...

It seems that you are inferring that you made the world's first laser cigarette lighter.

Whilst you have already discussed this, I must add that by adding "cheapie" to your title you are not necessarily making anything different from Rog's laser as his can be considered "cheapy" too... Those zippo-style lighters can be bought from DealExtreme.com for under $5USD. I'm not sure how much BIC lighters are in the US, your video states one dollar if i recall correctly, but the cost of Rog's parts would be much less than advertised on your site. Im not having a go at you for selling at what people may consider high prices, however Im just saying if you totaled it all up, Im going to go out on a limb and say Rog's can be made for less... (sorry if the site is not yours, I, once again, am not sure if it is)

405nm is NOT blue...

I see how "blue" may be more appealing to some people, however it is not blue! If you are looking to teach people how to make DIY lasers and are trying to introduce them to DIY lasers, please teach them the correct science behind it. Ask anyone and they will tell you 473nm is blue NOT 405nm. Whilse fluoroesence may make 405nm look blue, it is NOT blue. Please keep this in mind...

The module itself is not adequate heatsinking...
A module is not adequate for heatsinking unless you want usage of around 10-20 seconds before you have to turn it off to cool it down. Although this time I'm glad you used a driver so people dont instantly fry their diodes...

EDIT:

Oh, and I must say Rog's appears much safer too. It has a lid which will prevent the laser accidentally being activated and shone in someone's eyes or at something not desired. Also, it will not go off in your pocket...

Well this has got interesting while I was away, sorry Kipkay if I offended you I would say I didn't mean it but I did, I guess afterall your videos were the first step to me arriving in this forum to get the job done properly.

But I'm not going to repeat what is already said because I think everything is pretty much covered from lack of eye protection, no heatsink and the fact that adding one word doesn't change the meaning.

Maybe one day you might credit someone or atleast be polite and show them that someone else has created someithing VERY similar before you.

Hey Rog
I just saw your video on the lighter, I want one. I collect Zippo's and would love to add one to my collection. Do you make these to sell, please say yes!

If you do HOW MUCH?

Your's is a much better build.
Thanks

IIRC.... Rog builds one of a kind projects... he'll show you how to accomplish
his builds... but he doesn't build to sell...
You could PM him to be sure...
