Over a mile or two your beam will expand and you would measure from center to center, a round spot is more important than the size, as for 15mm, just try it, you will see that your beam bottoms out.

This. Plus on the leveling setup that I was thinking about, It'll put you way higher then that. A $10 bubble level isn't going to cut it here.

Just the opposite. If you were at the ocean and pointed it out to sea it will just keep going as the earth curves down and away. I believe the line of sight distance at average eye level is about 3 miles. That is why when a ship goes out to sea and you watch it, the ship little by little looks like it sinks down into the water. That is the curve of the nearly round earth that we live on.

PROOF OF FLAT EARTH

If a sniper doesn't have to alter his sights every time he changes direction for distances over 1000 yards then the Coriolis effect is bogus and the earth is not rotating. Does anyone disagree?

I didn't want to debate flat earth but I'm glad I did. You put forward so many good arguments I couldn't resist.

Is it true the earth curves away at 6 miles so if you had a straight spot for miles the laser would hit the ground.
If you try to fire a laser at a point six miles away, on the same level, the ground should arc up by 6 foot in the middle(ie 3 miles in) so the laser would hit the ground, presuming the ground is level like water and your laser is elevated less less 6 foot above the ground and the earth is round. If the earth is flat there would be no 6 foot arc in the middle and your laser wouldn't hit the ground.

The bump in the middle of your two points getting in the way of your line of fire... That's called shooting through the ground. The earth is just so immensely huge that you don't notice it in your everyday lives. On a human scale, the earths curvature is minute but very real... So minute in fact that one might even believe the entire earth was flat. This, for you srow, is a clear cut case of if you can't see it for yourself, and you haven't experienced it...then it's not real. If I had the money, I would send you to space myself! Just being able to orbit is proof enough, as it's only possible with a round earth. But, if you were up there in the ISS, you would be seeing this with your very own eyes! Curvature!

Much wisdom here guys. Srow you really need to get a grip on reality bud. Watch this video.

If firing facing north or south your impact point will be left or right. If firing facing east or west your impact point will rise or fall.
RedCowboy, I believe you might be at a turning point! You know that snipers don't take the Coriolis effect into account(not properly anyway) so how can it be true?? The Coriolis effect means that a sniper will have to adjust his rifle every time he changes direction but in reality he doesn't. Two plus two does not equal five.

Bogus Coriolis effect + reality sniping = NO ROTATING EARTH!

How do you know they don't adjust their scopes while changing direction? What Red was just saying makes perfect sense, and I'm sure if any war vets are here that know about the subject, they could confirm this... I don't understand what's going through your head??

Because they say they don't. See this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hiRaP8qxqa4
I don't expect you to watch it all, just read the text below the video which says:-

1. Horizontal Coriolis Correction
- Deflection is the Same Irrespective of Direction of Fire - Northern Hemisphere: Always Deflects POI to RIGHT (adjust fire Left) - Southern Hemisphere: Always Deflects POI to LEFT (adjust fire Right)
- Magnitude Depends on Latitude - Poles: Maximum Deflection - Equator: Zero Deflection
See where is says "Deflection is the Same Irrespective of Direction of Fire". So this sniper doesn't adjust for direction. Are you saying he should?

srow,
please understand that snipers do not shoot at ranges of 3+ miles. the longest recorded kill shot was 2475 meters (8120 feet) Coriolis effect is a very minimal influence at this range.

I disagree.

You are confusing several topics and orders of magnitude.

Remember that a sniper's bullet is only airborne for a short period of time, and is released with the same angular momentum as the surroundings, etc. IE: Its not a significant effect considering the wind and elevation, etc, which are far more important in that context.

Also, there are people who fly high enough to see the earth's curvature.

There are people who navigate seaways and airways, and see the earth's curvature.

There are even ancient peoples who have discovered that the earth being round is the only way to explain what they see around them without conflicts...Columbus running into America for example would be an example of someone going west to get to the east, because it was known that the earth was round, etc.

You seem intent on ignoring the vast majority of current knowledge on the topic, and only considering archaic and debunked information, or presenting misinterpreted information.

Is there a reason you want the earth to be flat?

IE: What drives you to want to prove this?

Here is an article i found talking about coriolis effect in relation to shooting.

Long Range Shooting: External Ballistics - The Coriolis Effect | The Arms Guide
Yes, it's one of the articles that Laser girl found. Here is a paragraph from it:-

What is most affected by Coriolis Effect is the horizontal component of the bullet trajectory. Because of the Coriolis effect, every moving object not connected to the ground is always deflected to right in the Northern Hemisphere, and always toward left in the Southern Hemisphere. The deflection is not east or west, but specifically to the right or left with reference to the shooting direction. It doesn’t matter in which direction you shoot; it is a function of latitude and average bullet speed. Its effect is maximum at the poles, and decreases as one moves toward the Equator, where is nothing. The explanation of this phenomenon is more difficult than the explanation of Eötvös Effect, so I won’t go into it into detail.
Look where it says
It doesn’t matter in which direction you shoot
This text is referring to any distance whether it be 1m or 100000m and any flight time whether it be 1 second or 2 hours. The Coriolis effect doesn't have any limits on distance or time. The Coriolis effect still applies to a bullet in the air for a 'short period of time' or at '2475 meters'. If the effect were insignificant then why do the globe earth people go on about it? We flat Earther's know the coriolis effect is fake and that is why snipers don't need to make adjustments for the direction they are firing in. If the Globe Eathers actually admitted that their beloved Coriolis effect meant that snipers had to make adjustments for every time they changed direction, the snipers would soon discover that this was Bogus because in practise they don't need adjust for direction and if they did they would miss. The Globe Earthers invented the Coriolis effect to prove to everyone that the Earth was rotating. The problem for them was that people didn't have sniper rifles back when the coriolis effect was invented so there was no way for people to disprove it but now we do have rifles we can see that the Coriolis effect isn't observable. It is no where to be seen! Sniper's know they can point their rifle any where they want and they wont have to make any adjustment other than for real factors like wind that actually exist. So, the Globe Earthers are forced to break their own invention of Coriolis to explain why it isn't observable to snipers by saying that no adjustments are necessary for change in direction when the Coriolis effect, by necessity, means that adjustments are necessary. Hence, if the Coriolis effect isn't observable, it doesn't exist and the Earth isn't rotating.

so If the earth doesn't rotate. Explain how we have sunsets and sunrises. unless of course you believe the earth is the center of the universe.

Yes, I watched it and the one thing that worries me is that he basically labels flat Earthers as extremists. The next step from extremist is terrorist. I know that if the establishment start losing control of this argument they will start locking us up as terrorists.
