I made a mistake suggesting using alternative effects lens with the JL pen lasers.
I tried screwing them in all the way, instead of part way, and knocked the little glass or plastic portion off the front of diode on my red one.
If you do use them, just don't try to screw them all the way down.
Everything still works fine, but damn if I can find the little round piece that protects the diode now.
My bad.
Sorry

Thanks for warning us. You lost the actual glass window, or a retaining ring?

Yes, thanks for the update, you may have saved a few damaged pens! :yh:

Do you know what the distance is from where the lens touches the diode, and being screwed on all the way?
If it's not too far, I wonder if you could make a washer/spacer to fit over the threads, between the lens and the face of the pen? Similar to those in the photo below, that I used to extend a short acrylic lens.

Edit: I was just thinking that an "O" ring might be a good alternative spacer.

Hi Gabe. The little window of the red one

Hi Bowtieguy. The window I lost seems to be 1/8" deep. Bit at least another 1/8 under that spot is the diode.mlittle ridges above that are what held the little window. If I really cared I guess I could make a small plastic window for it. For now, I'll keep crud out of it. They both work fine. Hell for $78 I could buy a new one, though it wouldn't be the first generation 15mw. Lesson learned. I didn't need to screw it all the way down for it to work fine. It's at least as powerful as my Ti-B, thought not nearly as cool. :)
