Finding out from Daguin that 3 AAA batteries for the 1.1 watt 445nm laser I was going to sell had failed to power it. I ended up opening the tail cap to see if I could fit in an 18650 battery and have succeeded.

It easily opens up by simply using a thin screw driver to unscrew the white plastic piece through one of the 2 holes. Once it screws off there will be a long spring... that's it.
Shorten the spring to fit the 18650, about 1cm.

Here are some pictures of the pieces... forgive my camera... its only 1.3mp

It doesn't affect the outside of the cap. It's amazingly easy to fit any long battery like the 18650.

So there you have it. Now you can run high power diodes (without lowering the power to work with AAA's) with this host.

Hope this helps even with the crappy pics. Its a good host and large heat sink.

Can't get that MXDL side button host from DX any longer...

It's been out for probably a year...
