Jaycar, is a Australian Wide Electronic shop. (To be clear for the US/Other Mob)

They are selling a 1mW green laser pen for $100.00AU! No typo's here. 1mW for $100.00

Seriously, how wrong is that...

While I was in the shop, I asked - "What lasers do you have?", they replied, "Oh, we have this very powerful one, its green!"

IDK, Im pissed off about that... Sorry, just cant get over it.

We have some shops like that in Los Angeles.
I was in a Marvac Dow electronic shop and they had a little solid state video recorder with an LCD screen. I saw it was priced at almost $600 dollars and I asked why it was so expensive, when most places have something like that for as little as $99 bucks.

The guy told me, they purchased a number of them when they first came out and that's how much they were going for (along with the high wholesale price). Over time, if they didn't sell, they got stuck with them as other, cheaper versions became available.

It's sort of like buying a bunch of iPhones when they first came out, banking that you'd sell out of them before the price came down.
If you don't sell them all and the price comes down (and if you can't send them back to the manufacturer), you're stuck with then and have to decide if you want to sell them at a loss or keep the price the same and even if you don't sell any, at least on paper, your inventory and sales still look good.

Jaycar have very high markup prices, with those pointers, its almost 80%!

They dont buy them for that much though, obviously.

I wonder how much it would cost if I used my trade card, they said somethings can be up to 40% off.

Lol, I'm In Australia, I seen that laser, I turned it on and thought it was broken, I never seen only 1mW of green. Also there LM317T's are AUD$1.25, I think that's a rip off considering how much some bulk amounts go for on ebay.

I just got 1 of their 15" party speakers for xmas, 120W RMS, and I just happened to have a 130W amp. I still wont be able to run it at its full potential untill I get another speaker and a better amp. :D

They sell 10mw red bare diodes for almost as much as an LPC815 sled costs. haha

Stuff is expensive, but when you need small quantities of small parts, its not exactly convenient to do an order from a large distributor. Just pray they don't go down like DSE and turn into selling all commercial junk (or more than they sell now) and turn basically into a retail electronic goods store.

Yeah DSE sucks now, theres only 1 store in the whole town that actually still sells some electronic components, but no where near as much as JayCar

yeah the 10mw diodes are nice though, they have a very large tolerance range - current wise

I like JayCar personally. Since I only buy small amounts of electrical components, it's good for me. But I reckon they're better for random, cool little electrical oddities :) Like what you get from DX, except without the 2 weeks shipping :p

And I reckon most electronics stores would have lasers around that price. We buy our lasers from dedicated laser distributors and sometimes factory direct, so we get the best deals. You'll always get lower prices when you buy like that rather than a local store, that's how it is for everything.
