Very nice beam shots, Alex. I am interested in the measure divergence of this laser. Will be looking forward to seeing what you get exactly.

thats one thing im struggling with. the laser mode hops a lot. it mostly has a double spot(TEM00 1). not sure how to best measure that. its never in clean TEMOO 00

i measured it the best i could. I getting between .6 - .8 Mrad I took this shot at 10 meters. The beam spot might be smaller but its hard to
adjust and see at what point on the focusing ring gets the best focus but its close

If you ave a pair of red goggles it would be easier to see the spot without all the extra light making the measurement more difficult. I didn't know that it mode hopped that badly. I thought it got a good Gaussian beam with TEM00. Sorry to hear that.

I tryed to take a photo with the camera looking intonthe laser shades but the camera could not see it. Ill try again tomorrow and see if i can mess around with the settings. When i did the messurments i put the shades on and meaured the dot as best i could. I just took this photo to show a visual at like 50iso and 1/4000 shutter lol

You received high output overspec unit and some mode hopping is normal with a 473nm DPSS handheld due to several factors but if you are saying it is never TEM00 or near TEM00 as in eliptical rather than round something is not right. If it is mostly--most of the time even after a few minutes warm up TEM01--something may have happened during shipement or whatever--but something is not right---it should be better than that.

Take several pictures of the dot at intervals of time and send them to Gray and tell him you expected TEM00 or nearTEM00 and it is most of the time over the entire runtime TEM01 with 2 dots if that is the case--whatever you findings are.
You would have to send it back for JetLasers to adjust/fix but I am sure Gray will sort it out for you if it bothers you and give you aa credit for the cost of return shipping as well.

Give it a long test 5 minutes + and see what happens over time then tell Gray--he can easily tell you what should be and that is what you should have--if it is a little bit off it can be fixed to produce a better beam profile, I am sure.
The important thing is to let Gray know ASAP so he can evaluate what to do and help you get it done if need be.

I wanted to rep you, Encap. Unfortunatelly I cannot yet, again. Very valuable advice IMO. Gray is very nice guy and makes everything to make you happy customer.

BTW: Finally my package has just got status: "With delivery courier" Hopefully it does not reach me in some business meeting time. :)

Edit: Alex, also it depends on the temperature - if it is too hot or too cold from its particular laser ideal temperature, it might do some mode hopping.

Edit 2: It's home finally! Signature updated! ;) I'm looking forward when I'll have some time to unpack it.

I don't know how it happened but you have a double post saying the same thing, Radim.

Thanks, I've just deleted the first one. I don't know how it happened, I was just editing the first post and the edited version appeared together with the first version of my post. Sorry for that.

Interesting thanks for the advice. I will do just that and let gray know. Thanks again i really though it was normal.

It may be most of the time normal or mostly normal and part of the time TEM01--get Gray's views on that and protocal for determing what is what/what is the case.
If it is always TEM01 that is not normal--should be better, should be near TEM00 eliptical or perhaps even TEM00 gaussian round in a fine example under the proper temperature and electrical/battery power circumstances. Be sure you are using an excellent battery not just an OK/so-so battery--makes a big difference because of the high power 808nm pump diode required in a DPSS 473nm process which is only 3% to 5% efficient.

Gray will help you sort it out, no problem.

Quick test: 12 deg Celsius, distance about 4 meters, focus to infinity --> cigarette lit without problem in less than 20 s. And nice TEM00.

Once warmed up it looks like a crescent moon

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qzhlpuHGfU

Send that to Gray and tell him you don't know if shipping cause a change in the unit or not but you are not happy with the mostly TEM01 output and would like better beam quality.

Tell him eactly what you put here---"Here is a video showing the laser mode hopping and staying mostly in what looks like TEM01".

Tell him you would like it to be either adjusted, repaired or replaced with a better example.

No need if it doesn't bother you but am sure JetLasers can make it better than what your video shows.

Yes, I would consider this totally unacceptable. I would purse a replacement ASAP.
